Question:
clothes
How many pounds have you lost before taking up your clothes is not a good idea. How much as any one ever taken up before you said thats it for that outfit. I am reading about losing your panties, pants, skirts, no one has said anything about their bras. I just can't afford to buy new things with every pound dropped. I am now wearing my "GOOD" clothes daily only because I know I won't be able to after DEC 12! — pettykash (posted on December 4, 2005)

Check with your local support groups for clothing exchange. Alot of folks
do that.

I have lost 73lbs and am still wearing all of my same clothes. Some are
getting a little bagging now but for the most part they still fit. Same
with my bras. I am still wearing the same bras, just on a tighter clasp.
I started out on the very end clasps and have moved to the 4th and final
set. I am 4 months post op and will need to buy new bras in probably
another few weeks or so.

I lost around 125 pounds in total. I bought bras once during the middle
of my losing, and once when I was pretty much done. I did not buy a ton of
them while losing, just enough to get by. The same for my panties.

Find a good seamtress that is not going to charge you and arm and a leg to
take up your clothes. That's cheaper than going out an purchasing new
outfits. My partner found a seamstress that altered her dress suites and
did an excellent job. She charged her about 40 a suite. Order underwear
online from Lane Bryant Catalogue with deferred payment for 90 days. You
don't have to give up your clothes. A good seamstress will know exactly
what to do.

You might want to netwook with your local support groups in your area
because many times people bring clothes to the meetings they can no longer
fit and just talking to others sometimes can net you some needed clothing
for free! We are all all in this together and the bond that we share makes
us willing to help our fellow sisters and brothers as they go through this
journey. I went to a local picnic and they had clothes that others brought
to give away so I was able to get some really nice things (some of which I
cannot wear now because they are too big!). Also try thrift shops and flea
markets because I believe that many WLS patients are donating clothes to
these places and most of the clothing they accept can be from new to good
condition.

Personally, I wore my bras until my breasts were sagging to my
knees.....then I got out my sewing machine and did some very amature
adjustments. I bought hooks that are meant to help you let out the
garment, and sewed them so they actually made my bra tighter. When your
boobs are as big as mine were (48 I), it was just too expensive to buy
bras. I am currently in need - and I am just waiting and putting money
aside so I can buy some very supportive bras. They are still going to cost
me a bunch as I am now in a 38 E. E - stands for "E"verything
hangs REALLY low! lol And "E"verything still has to be special
ordered and is really expensive! lol

I found that the easiest & least expensive way for me to deal with the
ever changing body size was to go shopping at the thrift stores. I bought
clothing that I liked in smaller sizes so that when I lost more weight I
would have other things to wear. This works really well if you buy on the
99 cent sale days.

Here in St. Louis at our support group meetings we have a clothes exchange.
I have even mailed clothes to my "littermate" up in boise, ID...
it's a great idea when you are strapped for cash in the ever size changing
world..lolol

Hi There,
Don't worry your clothes will last long after your surgery... It would be
nice if this surgery you woke up a size 8 but no we don't... it takes
time.. :o)
Bras aren't too bad... I also look for sales... espically since we have
time before we shrink away, you can search out sales and good deals...
coupons etc... you don't need these item immediately but it will be nice to
have them on hand when you do...
Good luck with your surgery! You will do great!

Thrift stores are wonderful, but the best place I found was the mark-down
rack. Whenever I found anything that was really cheap...I bought it
knowing I'd be wearing it eventually. Also, elastic waists are better for
wearing longer. I would think you'd be able to find some clothes for
cheaper than getting them altered. The best thing I've found for bras is
to wear the sports top thingies. Nothing else is comfortable and quite
honestly....the only time I wear underwear any more is during my period.
Underwear just doesn't fit right any more. Good luck and
Congratulations!!!

Lucky for me, I kept my clothes from when I had lost 160 pounds before. I
have been able to get into almost everything now except the size 16 pants
and 10/12 dresses. I thank my lucky stars I didn't get rid of anything. I
will be getting rid the clothes that don't fit anymore to the clothing
exchange with my local support group. Also, there are consignment stores in
my area that will trade for store credit. I also think the Hospice and
Cancer Society Stores have nice stuff at a reasonble price.

The main thing I had to but new was bras. I bought 2 about halfway out and
2 more when I was done. I buy at Goodwill and clearance sales. JC Penney
and Boston Store and every other store have super clearance sales. The most
i have paid for a new item (I swear!) is $3.00 - $5.00. Usually $3. I am
just not able to spend more. Also I am lucky because I have some friends
who were either smaller in the past at my size or evenmore so some who lost
weight and their big size is my new small size and I have gotten a ton of
hand me downs. Some nice stuff I wouldn't have been able to afford to buy
too. I am not proud and so I love hand me downs. I didn't need new clothes
until I lost almost 100 lbs either. Then the 4X's were simply too too big.
Good luck and enjoy getting smaller you will feel so much better.
