Question:
Stickibng to food plan
Has anyone ever questioned their ability to syick to their post-op diet since they weren't able to do so in the past? I'm getting scared that I won't be able to do this correctly. Anyone else ever question themselves like this before their op? — MaryLisa D. (posted on December 2, 2002)

I'm almost 6 mos. post RNY and down 90 lbs. I did have concerns that I
wouldn't be able to follow my diet restrictions. I would guess that most
people do. It's very easy to eat less after surgery because there is no
choice. My body tells me when I'm full and there's just no option to eat
more. A couple times throwing up after taking just a few bites more and I
learned where my guidelines are. Also, right after surgery, the desire to
eat just is not there. It's not exactly an easy change in habits, but your
habits will change. I don't miss my old eating habits either. I thought I
would be just miserable, but thankfully, I feel satified with what I'm able
to eat and I was a "big eater".

Yes! I was terrified about this before the surgery. I still can eat a lot
of the things that I loved pre-op but most of those loves have changed now.
The biggest and best thing after this surgery is that you can't eat too
much of it. For instance, I still LOVE chips. Before I could eat the whole
bloomin' bag.....now, I can eat a handful. I didn't do this to be deprived
so I do have a bite of this or bite of that now and again. I just don't eat
the WHOLE package at a time now. ;-) Listen to your body, eat the
"right" things first and then have a bite or two of the other
stuff later. Good luck to you!

Hi MaryLisa:
Absolutely! That is so normal. I could't do it before, why will I be able
to do it after surgery? Believe me, I was a junk food junkie. I never
thought junk food would no longer appeal to me. I am almost 14 weeks
postop, and have had no trouble staying away from those things. First of
all, you just cannot eat the way you did. Your body will not allow you to.
Secondly, this is the only form of behavior modification that has worked
for me. Food just does not have the same taste as it did before WLS. Good
luck to you. Hope all goes well.
