Question:
How long do you have to wait to restart sexual activity
I am a 32 yr old married male, my wife and I have a very aggressive sex life. Will I return to my old self after the procedure, if so how long? I hope this is not to much for this Q and A area. — EDDIE S. (posted on November 11, 2002)

Hi Eddie, I am also pre-op (Nov 20th) and I had this very same concern. I
found loads of good information in the Q&A archives. There is a lot of
great info about when to resume activity, questions about specific acts and
positions, and things I had not even thought to ask about yet. Best of luck
to you and your wife. From what I have read, WLS only makes sex better!

I would wait until you are out of the hospital bed myself. Let nature take
its course unless you are in the grocery store or something.
One other thing You will notice something new happening as the weight drops
off. Email me for details

a lot is going to depend on the type of prodecure you're going to have
(open vs. lap). If you have lap probably within a couple weeks max. If
you have open it could easily be 6 weeks before you feel like moving that
aggressively :>)

Being the female and having Open RNY, I think it may have been easier for
me to participate again, as I was able to be the far more passive partner
(at least until I healed!). If memory serves me correctly, I think I still
had staples in my incision LOL...As for you being the guy, as soon as
you're up to it and you'll know if you are. Take it easy...don't try to
break any records right out of the gate and you should be fine. On a good
note: I hear that the more a man loses his belly, the more other areas
seem....um....more pronounced. *blush*

I've heard that the best rule of thumb is to wait until you leave the
hospital! :)

Eddie, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE make sure the catheter is out first!!!!!
After that let your body do the talking. Also, it is true that after
surgery you "mysteriously" have a LOT more to work with! It's
pretty cool. Enjoy your new life!

My surgeon recommends waiting 3 weeks. Good luck!

Had surgery on Wednesday, had sex on Saturday. My surgeon told me
"when you feel up to it". It sounds quick, but we were out of
town, no kids and in a hotel. If you didn't think about the six tiny
incisions in my belly it was like a second honeymoon. LOL!
