Question:
Has anyone had to pay for their initial visit to their surgeon?
I got a rather large bill today and called BC/BS they will only tell me if they will reimburse (50/50 chance)me after they have approved my surgery? Has anyone else had this kind of problem? thanks — laurac82101 (posted on July 25, 2001)

I chose to pay for my initial evaluation because the insurance I had at the
time does not cover obesity treatment of any kind. I switched insurance,
but while I was waiting for the new insurance to take effect, I went ahead
and met with the surgeon at my own expense. The road to surgery can be
long, and I wanted to get rolling.

I was told that you shouldn't pay it, but rather wait until you're approved
and then have the doctor's office resubmit it for payment by your
insurance.
