Question:
I am 11days post-op 5/25. for the last 2 days I've had a headache that lasts almost
all day. Could this be from lack of food/vitamins? — Angel G. (posted on June 5, 2000)

Did you used to drink alot of coffee?
It seemed to me that my body was used to a couple cups a day, then after
the surgery, I went through caffein withdrawl.
That means "headache".

Hi Angel,
If you were used to drinking caffeine pre op, like in Coke or Pepsi, now
that you can't drink it, your body may be going through caffeine withdrawl.
The other thing, if you had an epidural for pain management in the
hospital, you may be having an epidural headache. Usually, those types of
headaches will come on about 10 days to 2 weeks after you have gotten out
of the hospital. It is a side effect of the epidural. Somehow you lose
cerebrospinal fluid and when you do, you get a headache. Don't worry, your
body will make more of this CFS and it should go away in a few days. When
it happened to me after the birth of my second child, the anesthesiologist
told me to drink drinks with TONS of caffeine in them, such as Mountain Dew
or Jolt, to open up the blood vessels in my head. BUT seeing as you can't
drink any soda, you might try Asprin Free Excedrin, this has the
acetaminophen and caffeine in it, but it doesn't have the asprin in it. I
swear by them, they are WONDERFUL for a headache. Good Luck to you... =)

I had a bad headache too. Alot of it was caffiene withdrawal, but it was
also from the oxygen in ICU. My sinuses got infected and irritated.

Angel, Did you drink any caffinated drinks before your surgery?
If so, you might be having caffine withdrawls. I suffered
from this for two weeks. I could be wrong, but it was
just a thought.
