Question:
Two Years Post-Op Rny...suffering from exhaustion???
I have lost 140 pounds and with a few minor fluctuations, have kept it off so far.... saw my surgeon for an 18 month checkup in October, my labs all looked good except that I was borderline low in iron, so am now taking an iron supplement....but for the past month, have been absolutely exhausted. Find myself nodding off during meetings at work, while sitting in front of my computer, even fell asleep at a HEAVY METAL concert just before Christmas? Anyone got any ideas about what might be happening? I drink a lot of Crystal Light "Metabolism" or "Energy" - they contain caffeine.... and some chai tea, also with caffeine... but I've just got no energy at all!!! — Erica Alikchihoo (posted on January 15, 2011)

Have your doctor look closer into the iron issue. I am suffering from
severe anemia due to iron deficiency. It doesn't matter how much
supplementation I take, because tests show I do not absorb what I am
taking. The only thing that works is periodic IV iron infusions and regular
blood tests to check my iron levels. They have never figured out the cause
but the infusions have given me my life back!

Also get your Dr to take a look at your B12 level. That can play a huge
role in how exhausted you are and is very easily fixed if you are on the
low side with a shot or melt in the mouth tabs.

I have to agree with the other two. I had an iron deficiency a couple of
years ago (nothing to do with my RNY)and I would become exhausted walking
from the car to the house. It was horrible and very dangerous. Please
have your iron checked ASAP.

Have your doctor check Iron levels, B12 and thyroid. I had all 3 issues.
Now I am on thyroid meds, monthly B12 shots, and iron infusions. No
fatigue. Also, If you are on any hypertension meds you may need a reduction
in the meds. Blood pressure may be too low.
