Question:
Slow healing of cuts and scratches
I'm 22 months post op from open RNY. It seems like that whenever I get a cut or scratch it takes forever to heal. It forms a scab ok, but then nothing happens for a long time. I'm wondering if I'm not getting enough protein in???? — Richbehr (posted on January 13, 2010)

Ask your surgeon,or just take in mnore protein and see if that helps

It sounds like you already know the answer and may be second guessing
yourself. Have you had bloodwork done lately? I would start getting more
protein in and see what happens from there.

Take your vitamins and make sure that you are getting all or more of your
protein requirements. Protein helps the skin heal.

Have your doctor test you for diabetes, if you know you don't already have
it. That is one symptom; is wounds healing very slow. Not to scare you,
just to alert you. Have him do an A1C level test as well as the other
diabetic testing. Not just a fasting glucose test.

same thing here plus I bruise more easily now and takes forever (it seems)
for the bruises to go away. I think it is just a side-effect from the
surgery.

I have found the same to be true with me also. I don't heal as well as I
use to and I also bruise too. I have been to my doctor and had blood work.
All is good, I take my vitamins and supplements every day. So I'm
chalking it up to being one of the side effects of having RNY.
