Don't worry. You shouldn't have anything to worry about. As long as you follow your doctor's orders and don't have food before it's time, it will be okay. You should be on liquids for up to a month post op, no food at all. Let the healing process take place before you eat food of any texture. Your pouch will be sore, swollen and tender for about 3 months. Which surgery are you having and what are your main concerns? (fear) Not everyone has problems. I had the RNY almost 5 yrs ago and I haven't had any problems at all. If your doctor is good and you follow directions it will be fine. A lot of doctors let the pt's have food right after surgery and I think those are the one's that have problems. You can email me at my profile and I can help with questions you might have.

Everyone goes through the same feelings. If you were not nervous I would be surprised. Also know that after surgery you will go through about three days of "what have I done to myself" but that too shall pass. I was exactly the same way--Nervous but excited at the same time. Everyone is scared of the unknown.

I had my surgery 11-03-09. The first night is pure torture. Everyone tells you that. By day 2 I was great and have been since. Remember...nervous will make you take this more seriously and follow ALL the rules. That is key. It will give you a new life. Good luck

My first night was NOT torture. Just do what your Doc asks you and you should be fine. Remember follow his ground rules and you should be okay. Good luck!

My first night I had a headache from the morphine, that was the worst of my pain. I had discomfort and was stiff, but come one, major surgery here. But the ailments of people years out even, are problems they probably would have had without surgery. Or if not, I bet they would rather have had the surgery than not. Ask someone who mentions the "horrors" of years post op. I am 1 1/2 years out and have not had one complication or problem at all. Perhaps I am blessed, but I heard more good than bad. Of course there are people who have bad experiences, that happens in all aspects of life. But to put the blame solely on the surgery is not fair. I hope this help you. And good luck tomorrow! Hugs n God bless, Kim

Anxiety is very normal but it will be fine. I had my RNY surgery in March of this year. My first day/evening was not bad at all. My surgery was at 9 a.m. and by 3 p.m. I was up and walking the halls. I didn't sleep much the first night but that was because I was so dried out from the drugs used during the surgery and the fact that I was restricted to ice chips until they xrayed my pouch to make sure there were no leaks. Follow your doctor's orders and you'll do fine.

You will be ok. I was kinda freaked out the night/day before my surgery. I have had surgery before, but always as a result to pain (gallbladder removed, two D&Cs). This time I wasn't in a lot of pain, and started wondering what the heck I was doing. I wouldnt change it for the world. You will be fine!
