Question:
4 wks out and just started when I drink or swallow food I hear noises and feel like I

have to burp. I know it's gross, but has anyone else experienced this. Eventually it goes away, but it's making me not want to eat and drink.    — burks01 (posted on July 27, 2009)

Drink and eat slowly, stay away from carbs. Get up and walk after you eat or drink. It helps get rid of the gas. You are still healing and should start to feel better around 6 weeks.

The burp that I have(RNY) is my sign that I am full. If you are having that and then your pouch feels full, be glad you have the sign. Listen to your body. Early out it is telling us how small the pouch is and to not overfill it. I hope that helps?

Yes I have had this feeling but I have learned to listen to my body. They tell you not to eat 30min before you eat and 1 hr after you eat. For me it is definately what I have to do. If I even sip when I eat I burp and feel full. I am 9 weeks out now and have learned. I think we are lucky to have these built in signs as some people can eat larger amounts with no problem. I am still on eating no more trhan 1/2 cup at a time, with NO drinking.

Tracy, do you have the LapBand? Both my wife and I experienced that issue. My wife still has the LapBand and I still hear the noises. I had my band removed and am now 5 weeks post-op RNY and no noises.

I am 3 months post-op and still have alot and I mean alot of gas. I get the hiccups everytime I eat anything, and always end up with an upset stomach.

Yes I had the gurgly noises! Was weird. Didn't matter what, how or when I ate or drank anything. It was like having noisy plumbing. It did get get back to normal a few weeks ago. It's been 6 weeks since my ryn-y.

I had the VSG and I had the gurgly noises and burping too. My husband would hear them and just look at me wondering if I was ok. My doctor said to slow down eating and don't eat too much. I have now noticed I too burp when I am full or almost full. I may be able to get in 1 more bite but not much more. I am 4 months out now and having much less noise and I can drink easier now too. I'm sure it will get better for you as well.

I experienced that too..the noises where very loud and embarassing (sp) I thought perhaps it was air trapped in the esphagus. I just slowed down and you can kinda feel the food and liquid go into your pouch, just wait for that then continue. It was strange having my boss hear the noises. best wishes

6 years out and I still have it. If my grandson (2 years old) is standing close enough to hear it, he just laughs and runs to put his ear on my stomach. He thinks its hilarious!! It doesn't hurt and after 6 years I'm used to it. Hope it goes away for you. Good Luck!! Angela, Ms ,Lap RNY Jan 03, 230/118
