My daughter had it done after her wls. It was about like going through the rny as far as pain and recovery time. (She had both done laproscopically.) Not as much nausea with the G/B surgery in her case. Good luck with your surgery, if thats what is going to be happening.

I had my gall bladder removed laproscopically in 1998. I had a spasaming issue and no stones but lots of pain prior to having it out. I just had VSG surgery done laproscopically in March 09. I found the gall bladder surgery to be a little less painful and a little quicker to recover from than the wls. Of course it was 9 years earlier but it really wasn't bad at all. I really had to have people remind me I had surgery so I wouldn't do too much afterwards and cause problems. I healed up quickly and easily. There are adjustments to your body absorbing the excess bile and you have to be causious of certain foods but most of those (like high fat or sweets) we aren't supposed to eat after wls anyway. I did have and still do have some issues with salad and I can't eat cole slaw but again those are challenges with wls anyway. It was definitly worth having it out to stop the awful pain. I hope everything goes well for you.

My pcp was cking out something else for me in a sono and found I had gallstones (I never had pain from them, didn't even know they were there.) Had GB removed laparoscopically last month. No complications from surgery, haven't found any foods yet that I can't eat. Pain was not quite as bad as when I had lapband, just from the gas they pump into you during surgery. My doc said it was pretty common to develop gallstones after weight loss surgery.

I had Gallbladder surgery back in 1986, which was before Laparoscopic days. I have a big nasty scar next to my LapBand scars and now my RNY Laparoscopic scar. I remember it felt a little less that my RNY surgery.

I had my Lap RNY in Jan 03. I had my gallbladder removed in 2005. It was done lap and I had no pain afterwards, I went home 2 days later, spent 2 days "recovering" at home then went back to work (nurse). I could have gone back to work the day after I was discharged but you know how family is :-) they mean well. Take care and Good Luck!! Angela, Ms, Lap RNY Jan 03, 230/118
