Question:
Need advice on lossing last 30#

I am 14 months post-op and have 30# pounds left to lose. If I eat a normal diet and exercise 3 times a week i just stay the same. I lift weights and do aerobics but in less I starve or do a liquid diet I can't seem to move the scale. any suggestions? I am stuck and frustrated.    — tigerlil58 (posted on March 27, 2009)

My suggestion would be to do some arobic exercise at least 6 days a week for at least 1/2 hour per day. That the only way I can break through a plateau. When I stop losing I increase my exercise. Hope this help you.

And if you're not already doing this, I would add that you journal your food/caloric intake to make sure extra calories haven't snuck back into your plan. Even with surgery it's still the basics of calories in, calories burned. You have to burn off more than you take in to achieve weight loss.

I agree with Peggy, increase your aerobic activity to break through the plateau, but remember to change the type of aerobic activity you do every thirty days. Your muscles will get use to that type of activity and you can plateau that way.

Read and consider doing the 5 day pouch test. Just reading it taught me that some of the things I was eating are considered 'slider' foods and actually cause you to retain or gain weight. Some of those foods are things you used to be able to eat before surgery and considered a good choice when trying to lose weight, such as popcorn & pretsels. Also, just getting back to basics helped my pouch start do what it used to do!

Have you tried pilates? I have only been doing it once a week and I can tell a big difference in my weight loss. It helps me tone and lose weight.

Marsha, congratulations on your weight loss! I hit a plateau also and wanted to loose another 30 pounds. The nurse reminded me that I had about 15 pounds of skin that won't disappear without plastic surgery. So keep that in mind. Maureen, Akron
