Before anyone can give you any suggestions, you didn't say why you want a revision. Are you way underweight, having medical complications? More information needed. Susan

Melissa, Hi. The answer is yes depending on why you want the revision. Are you getting into an underweight status or gaining weight again? Having trouble eating and digesting? I suggest researching and talking to your doctors about it first. Good Luck and God Bless, vinnigirl, retired RN

You can get revision from a RNY to another form or Weight Loss Surgery, but frankly, it is not easy. The BEST revision for most RNY patients is usually to the Duodenal Switch, MOST of the HARD work work is already done with the RNY. What the surgeon has to do for a revision to a Duodenal Switch from a RNY is to place the output from the side of the pouch to the bottom of the stomach, remove the gall bladder and take the intestine from the bottom of the stomach and attach it to the spleen, reconnect the top of the stomach to the bottom of the stomach, and create the "Sleeve." Now, this revision may not be as EFFECTIVE as a Duodenal Switch that was created from "Scratch," since the BYPASS part of the Duodenal Switch tends to be a bit LONGER than in the RNY, but it WILL work. This set up tends to work BETTER than the GASTRIC BYPASS for those who want a revision. You are talking a probability of just a few percentage points of effectiveness for this procedure. The Gastric Bypass tends to be about 80 percent effective whereas the Duodenal switch is in the 90 percent range of effectiveness. I would say that you would probably end up with a procedure that would likely be about 86 to 88 percent effective with the shorter bypass. This is just a GUESS on my part, but it would make sense since the Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy is nearly as effective as the Gastric Bypass in helping people lose weight, and that is, in essence, what the revision is when you convert from the RNY to the Duodenal Switch. You are simply adding the Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy to the mix and removing the Gall Bladder. The removal of the Gall Bladder ALONE has shown to have some weight loss effects on some people, so there CAN be some added benefit for that part of the surgery, but the MAIN reason for doing it is to keep the patient from developing GALL STONES, which is a COMMON side effect of RAPID WEIGHT LOSS. The removal of the Gall Bladder is a PROFELACTIC surgery that is performed to ensure that this is NOT a problem in the future. Surgeons often do this kind of thing with the appendix as well. They will often remove a HEALTHY appendix if they happen to be working NEAR it just to keep from having to remove it LATER. I hope this helps. Hugh
