Question:
Scars?

Scars... I had RNY 4 weeks ago, Im healing perfectly!! I want to know if there are any creams out there that I can put on my scars to either help them heal more quickly or maybe help them go away. Any help is appreciated!!    — LauraMarie (posted on November 21, 2008)

I always use Vitamin E oil on the incision 3 times per day. But it is always best to make sure it is okay with your surgeon. I use Vitamin E oil on any wounds to make them heal better. Welcome to the losers bench. Dawn

There's an ointment called Mederma for scars, it's been out for quite some time. But the best, and I think they still make it, is Neosporin for scars. I think they come as a box of patches that you place on the scars. They have amazing results. Wal-mart carries them for about $7 or $8. Good luck and God Bless You on your journey.

I went to my derm 2 weeks out and he told me to use curad scar therapy for 4 weeks and then to come back in. The strips are only worthwhile for 4 weeks, so even though the box says you can continue, he said 4 weeks.

If you are healing perfectly, don't rush it with those creams and patches. I had open RNY and when my staples were removed, I was healing nicely and flat. AND, the scar was fading. I was like, "Wow, I'll get some of that scar treatment stuff and speed it up and maybe make it disappear altogether." Well, after using that stuff for about 3 to 5 days, my scar began to raise up and get dark. I was like, "OK, maybe this is the transitional period of using the scar medicine and eventually, it'll be as cute as it was." Well NEVER did it happen and I am 4 yrs post op. My sister did the surgery and hers was healing perfectly like mine was. She never used scar treatment and now her scar is flat and almost unnoticeable. She also had open RNY. So just be careful not to be over-zealous and ruin what's already going good.
