Question:
How do I get rid of this pain?

I just had lap band surgery yesterday, and during surgery they had put air in my stomach. Now I don't have pain from the cuts.... but I have pain from the air. I burp alot but it dosen't seem to be helping. What should I do to get rid of it?    — [Deactivated Member] (posted on October 23, 2008)

My advice is to walk, walk and walk some more. That is the way to move the gas/air out of your body. It will pass soon. Do not despair. Dawna In Sacramento, CA

These posts are true, but I had a hard time to walk a lot, because my lungs were hurting too, and I was completely out of breath very fast. So I also used some gas-X. They come in strips that melt on your tongue. It worked extremely well, and I felt great very fast. PS: walking will help for the gas, but it's also very important to walk to avoid any blood clot problem, which is far more dangerous... I was in your shoes a week ago, and I feel so grat now!!! So don't despair and I wish you a great recovery!

Drink lots of water and walk as much as you can. I used to take a 10 minute walk every hour and that seemed to help.

I'm 6 months post-op Lap RNY and had so much air in my body that the pain went up into my chest and my left shoulder. No amount of burping or "tooting" helped. The only thing that helped me was walking. I would just get up and walk once or twice around the living room when I just couldn't bear the pain anymore. It took about a week and a half for it to be gone completely, but every day the gas pain got better and better. That gas pain was the worst part of my entire surgery!! Good luck and I hope you feel better soon! Jessica

I was told to walk at least 10 minutes every hour and use Gas X, and walk some more. I did both and it worked pretty fast. Good Luck on your journey. Diane

walk, walk, walk. You will not burp it out. You will fart it out. You should be feeling better soon.

I do agree with everyone else's posts. Walking really helps and I know that walking so soon is hard, but you have to do it. The main reason for walking is to prevent life-threatening blood clots and to get your system moving on the inside. I am 2 weeks post-op Realize band surgery and still have occasional problems with gas and expelling it. You will need to get used to it as I have been told it the gas will be a part of our lives for a very long time due to the different chemical imbalances that we are going through on the inside of our bodies and it has to pass one way or the other.

Walk around alot and plenty of chewable gas-x. Remember the more you sit still or lay down the worse the pain will get.

Walking will get rid of it most likely, plus it will help you recover from the surgery more quickly. Good luck.

It's the gas that they blew in to do the surgery. As you can tell, walking is the answer to take care of it. It will pass! LOL.

Walk, walk, walk, and, when you are tired of walking, walk some more. It's not actually air, it's the gas used to inflate you for surgery and it needs to work it's way out. I'm surprised you aren't complaining about your neck hurting because most people who have trapped gas have tremendous neck pain.

I agree with everyone. Walking is very important to get rid of that air they pumped into your belly during your surgery. They had to blow up the area in your belly so they can move around the instruments used to perform the surgery. Walk, walk, and walk and even while you are walking try to lift your knees up towards your chest a little, that helps alot.

i just got out of surgery on monday, keep walking, sip on liquids, use your breathing but if that all doesnt help, then you might need a suppository, thats what i needed when i was in the hospital.
