Question:
I had lap band Thursday, feeling very weak/tired - Normal?
I have no energy, just want to lay down and sleep but force myself to walk - don't want a blood clot. My muscles are shaky too - is all of this normal the first days after surgery? — ReenyJ (posted on May 4, 2008)

Oh yeah. You have had an invasive surgery and it will take time to
regroup. Also, it takes time to get all of the Anesthesia out of your
system. Do sleep by all means. Set a timer, get up and walk every two
hours. Drink as much water as you can to help flush your system. It's
only been 3 days. It will get better every day and you may still
experience times of no energy for four to six weeks. Hang in there.
You've begun a new life and it's gonna be great!

definitlely rest its normal to feel weak and shaky. I was only allowed one
sip of water every 20 minutes all day for a week. I forced myself to walk
to get rid of the anesthia as well as the gas. Give ot time you will be
fine :)

I just had it 4-16-08 and I was tired but not weak. Be sure to drink your
protein. I still get tired but I keep walking (don't won't any blood
clots) I have them and they are treated with another medication that can
make you tired. It does get better. I felt guilty because I didn't feel
bad...Good Luck on your journey...

It's nice to know others feel the same. I had lap band on fri and i'm still
feeling the same way. Just woke up from a nap but I keep walking too and
drinking as much as I can.

It took me about 8 weeks to get any energy. I had gone back to work after
6 weeks and I remember rushing home just so I could take a nap. It will
get better promise... Best of Luck

Your body has gone through a tremendous change. It now has to adjust to
the changes as well as heal itself. It takes lots of work to heal your
body! Give yourself permission to rest and make time to walk too. But
don't overdue it. Change takes time to adapt to.

You just had major surgery, you need major recovery. This was not the
cleaning of your teeth, it was the invasion of your body cavity to adjust
your stomach. Give yourself time to recover, but you are right to walk,
even a little every day, and built up, it is very good for your recover,
just start slow and build up, and rest every day some until you can get
back on your feet. Take care. Patricia P.

Here is what I was not doing the first few days that made me feel like
that. I did not take 65-75 grams of protein, after all I could not get
down the 100 oz of water they wanted me to have. I felt bad so I took the
pain medication and went bed to sleep it off. I forgot to take the Multi
Vitamins, calcium, Iron and B-12 spray. A week later the doc did a blood
test and found that my calcium, potacium, iron and b-12 were all low. Gave
me a shot of B-12 and a kick in the ass and told me to start excersizing
that day, even if just for 10 minutes, as long as I added a minute to the
time each day. A week later I was fine, I followed the rules, and even
though I hated the protein drinks, I nursed a 16 oz glas made with skim
milk for two hours, but I got it down twice a day. TOday. on day one, I
would do what every it took, and I would gladly do it all over again. less
than 5 months an I am down 100 lbs and have 70 more pounds to a BMI of
24.9, my ultimate goal. Best of success to you!
