Hey Charnita ... congratulations on your surgery! This happened to me, too! Everyone's different, but it took me about 3 months before my taste & smell were back to normal for the most part. I had a metallic taste in my mouth much of the time making anything I tried to eat or drink taste very differently than before surgery. Best wishes to you on your recovery and weight loss journey. Welcome to the loser's bench!

It's probably ketosis...this happens when people are on restricted diets and the body begins to burn fat and muscle...That's why it's sooo important to get in your protein. Protein feeds muscle. One of the symtoms of ketosis is the bad taste in your mouth...It goes away! Drink lots of water too. You will find that there are going to be some things that you liked before that you no longer will. I have no idea what the flower thing is all about though! Good luck

You're going through ketosis, I went through it for about 2 months. It's because you've limited your carbs and your body is burning the fat. Good luck and congratulations on your surgery.

It was all in my brain. I would smell food cooking, yet I am the cook in the house and I was not cooking. I would taste odd things, like chemicals in bottled water that just were not there. It just takes time. I am three months out and back to normal. I also use to smell sewer smells when I woke up in the morning, but my wife smelled nothing.

I had the smell thing too!!! Everything had a heightened smell to it but it did go away after a few weeks. The bad taste will go away too. That took a little more time. Try s/f mints to keep your mouth moist

Ketosis, I have it too, and my bad breath is so bad I'm trying to keep my distance from people so I don't knock them out. It can last a few weeks or even several months, everybody's different. drinking fluids seems to help a little, and i drink the stronger flavored crystal lites. the ketosis will go away, and I figure it's worth it to get my life back

i agree with everyone and their suggestions about it being ketosis, however it could also be thrush which i got from the antibiotics they had me on while my stay in the hospital. it is a yeast infection in your mouth and you should get medication to get rid of it if that is the case. it makes everything(even water)taste absolutely disgusting and can also make you very nauseated just b/c of the nasty taste in your mouth. hope this helps. congrats on your surgery!

I am 10 days post op and this has happened to me too. The problems with smells reminds me of being pregnant! I started using listerine breath strips and they have helped a lot.
