Question:
17 months post and only lost 34 lbs total (in first 4 months only)
m doctor says 92% of pts are successful, there are some like me that the surgery does not work for and they do not know why. Anyone else have this problem. I wouldn't mind if I'd lost tons of weight like everyone else but I never even lost it to begin with. — suerose (posted on March 10, 2008)

I had RNY lap. 11-26-07 and i am down 79 lbs. 3-mo. and 10 days out. I am
not sure if i believe that it dosen't work for everyone- rather than not
everyone works the tool right.
what kind of surg. did you have? are you exercising? drinking proper
amounts of fluid? taking your vitamins? not sure exactly what could be
going on... I wish you luck. don't give up, keep working your tool...wish
you the best....

Hi Susan.
I certainly feel your pain & frustration. While I did have an initial
60# loss, I've been very disappointed with results of my surgery (and have
regained about 10#). My surgery was on 7/17/06. I've tried to do exactly
what I'm supposed to. I never expected it to be totally easy, but I truly
did wish I'd be one of those individuals that it 'worked' for. My surgery
was self pay, which makes it even harder seeing as how I had to finance my
RNY procedure.
I keep reading (& grasping) at every suggestion offered here. I try
very hard not to feel like a failure as that only feeds my old
insecurities.
I keep thinking that it's ridiculous that I'm already contemplating a
revision and it hasn't even been 2 years! I wish I would have asked more
questions!

from the research i read it is possible to have RNY and not loose a good
amt of wt., but they are not sure why it happens sometimes. of course there
are the people that don't do what they are supposed to and the ones that
get pregnant and stuff which stalls the entire process ALOT, but just hang
in there and follow up with your surgeon and nutritionist, because they
will be the ones to help you and maybe can give you some suggestions on how
to jump start things. i'm sure it is very frustrating and i can't answer
from experience, but please keep up the good work and keep trying. Holly

I know excactly how you feel. i had rny and only lost 30 lb in 6 months
then 3 months later i gained 4 bl. i did everything right. i worked out 6
days a week . i stayed hungry . but i was determine to beet this. i went to
my dr. 9 months after my wls i had cried and said to him this surgery has
failed me. i have never felt full , i dont over eat , but i can eat 8
ounces of spinache and wont get full. i couldnt understand that. he then
prescribe me phentermine diet pills only for 2months. then i suddenly drop
18 lb. 4 months later im still weighing the same no lost but no gained. so
i went back on diet pills again along with 2 vitamin b12 injection a week,
i had lost 12 bl in 10 days. which put a huge smile on my face.
rember even though you had the surgery you, have the tool. try to see if
you could get a revision for the stomphyx or get some diet pills and have
your doctor monitor you and ask for extra b12 injection he lps to loose
inches and weight much faster. dont rely on the surgery. Im not. i had rny
feb 1 2007 and so far i lost a total of 61 lb. 30 lb came off with the
help of diet pills. and i had to stop taking my protein drink because i was
getting to much protein which was causing the slow weight loss. and some
gain. the protein drinks are for people who cant stomache food or keep it
down. if your eating the right amount of protein you dont have to take the
shakes. read my profile and you will see your not the only one. good luck
and god bless you. dont give up or just rely on the wls

Hi Susan, thanks for writing. I looked at your profile page, and there is
no information on there to help me talk to you. What I will say is that I
am very sorry that you have had the experience you had. I am glad you have
been able to keep off the 34 pounds, and I encourage you to keep fighting.
Eat well, and be sure to drink water and exercise. If you are doing all
you can, than that is really all you can do. I am sorry it didn't work for
you. Very sorry. Take care. Patricia P.
