Question:
Overdose of B-12 any help?
My physician was giving me weekly injections of B-12. He was treating me for fatigue. It wasn't helping at ALL, I found another physician she discovered my B-12 level is 5,540. She told my the normal level is 211-911. She said it was making me tired causing the opposite. How long will I remain tired? Has this happen to anyone else? My girflriend had RNY in May of 2005. She gets MONTHLY B-12 injections,
not weekly. I think he is giving them to you too often. I do know the
injections are the best way to get B12, followed by sublingual and then the
tablets. I would stop getting them weekly and go to monthly. Also, if
this other doctor said your levels are too high, ask her if you should go
to monthly, or maybe stop them for a little while, or what else you can do
to bring the level down. Good luck!

Stay away from the injections as I fgound the monthly injections maked me
have more engery, but after about two weeks they died off and I was down
until the next show. I started to go every two weeks and then they did not
help. If found out like you I was about 3000. Now I use a spray that you
can get at any drug store over the counter each morning and my levels are
staying good. I was about 900 in my lest test. I feel better and have the
engery to work out every day.

I have never heard of too much B12 making you tired. Usually if you take
too much you usually use the restroom a lot more. But I take mine under
the tongue and once a month after surgery.
only once a month.

I had the same problem but my levels were too high from taking B12 pills. I
took them twice a day in addition to a multivitamin 2 times a day, my level
was around 4,000. I was told to lay off the B12 for awhile and just take my
vits everyday. I was tired all the time also, no energy at all. So we will
see how long this takes to lower this level, so far I am still tired. Take
care.

befor i had the ryn . i was taking diet pills. and my dr. used to give me 2
shots a week of the b-12 injection. i love it it gave me so much energy and
i was actualy loosing invches very quick from the shots. and my hair was
growing fast aswell. i wish my rny dr. would give me a b12 shot every week.
what are you iron levels. are you anemic. some time the weather could be
playing a part of being drowsy and a poor nutrition diet as well. are you
geting adequate protein in your body and is your sugar levels to low. that
could be a factor as well

Renee:
I also have had that very tired feeling. I spoke to my internist about it.
He explained that it stems from my history of having had insulin
resistance. My body made too much insulin (b/c of the excess fat I
carried) and when that insulin surge occurs it "sucks out" all
the sugar (glucose) in my bloodstream in a short period of time, leaving me
feeling like a "limp rag on the floor!!" He said that as my body
adjusts to the lower weight (39 pounds so far in 2 months) my body will
decrease the amount of insulin it secretes until it reaches a normal level.
He said I should feel these tired feelings less frequently. For the last
2 weeks I have noticed that these episodes have slightly diminished in
frequency. Keep up the hard work of diligence with diet and
exercise.....walk when you can. It will pass. Best wishes, Janet, RN
