Question:
I had gastric bypass done on Jan 27, 2002 by Dr wongsa in Houston, Texas
I had a starting weight of 445lbs, I am down to 275 six years later. I am interested in having a revision done. I had a friend in Kansas who had the lap band done 5 years after her Gastric bypass, My surgeon in now retired so I am looking for a surgeon in the Houston area who does revisions from gastric bypass to lapband. I called Dr Spivak's office they dont do it. I am awaiting a call back from Matthew St laurent. does anyone know of another surgeon who will perform this kind of revision? Thanks — tylerswife (posted on January 7, 2008)

Not sure about the RNY to lapband revision but you should check out the
Duodenal Switch forum here on OH under Forums, above. There are quite a few
RNY Gastric Bypass and lapbanders there that had revisions to the DS.

Good luck!

It is my understanding that Gastric Bypass is not reversible. When I had
my surgery 4 years ago they stressed that to us. Why do you want it
reversed?

Check with Dr. Nilesh Patel, he has offices in Houston, San Antonio and
Austin. Very good surgeon, I highly recommend him. Tell him Deborah
Essary sent you. ;)

Have you considered duodenal switch? I see lots of revisions from the band
and from RNY, but none from DS. Meaning that it is a pretty successful
surgery, especially for revisions. Check out the DS forum here at OH.
Good luck!

Hi! I actually live in Houston, TX. I went and checked out Dr. Wongsa for
gastric bypass and ended up using a different Dr. for different reasons.
Anyway, I know that Dr. Carlos Ferrari is now seeing Dr. Wongsa's
patient(s). I also would recommend a few other surgeons to use also. Dr.
Adam Naaman, the surgeon that I chose does revisions and I think he may be
a bit more leniant than Dr. Ferrari. I would also recommend Dr.(s) Robert
and Garth Davis. I'm not sure if they do revisions so you may want to call
and ask. I do know that Dr. Naaman and Dr. Ferrari both do revisions.
Again, Dr. Ferrari is seeing Dr. Wongsa patients so that may be a bonus for
you. Hope this helps!

I had gastric by-pass in Houston last sept 24 with Dr. Vadim Sherman at St.
Luke's and I am delighted with him, his team and the results: I haven't had
a single complication or discomfort. I was referred to him by the Dean of
Baylor School of Medicine and he does revisions. His ph. for appointments
is 713-798-5700, but for information you can contact Romana Polanska at his
office 713-798-8070. I am sure you will like him and he can help you. Good
luck. Margarita Rodriguez
