I didn't get pregnant after having an RNY, but I have two boys. If you are
pregnant or you are thinking about getting pregnant I think you should take
prenatal vitamins and plenty of folic acid. You also try to take in more
calories. You need to gain some weight while pregnant. Good luck to you.

I was told NOT to get pregnant for 2 yrs after RNY... So the best thing to
do is call your surgeon and they will give you the answers you need. Good
luck... Elisa

Its happened in our support group although NOT recommended quite a number
of healthy happy childern have been the result. Formerly infertile women
tend to get pregnant easily after losing the weight. You need close follow
up with your surgeon and nutronist. The baby will tend to take what it
needs from mom so vitamin supplements and the like are critical. If your
pregnant CONGRATS! A bundle of joy for you!

Congratulations Julie on your weight loss and also on your pregnancy!!!
Things will be fine, like everyone has said, just check in with your
surgeon and get to your GYN. Again, CONGRATULATIONS!!! PatriciaAE

Julie you need to (if you have not already) contact your surgeon. I would
be more concerned about the baby than you right now. You are going to have
issues, and I think the sooner you see your surgeon and get hooked up with
a good GYN doctor the better. If you had an open procedure, your incision
will be at risk, if it was a lap procedure, then the main issues will be
the nutrition for yourself and your child. Remember that you don't absorb
everything for just yourself, that means less will get to that precious
baby OR even less will get to you. Eat right, keep exercising and drinking
water and milk, but see that surgeon right away and stay in close contact
with them. That baby is precious and you want to give your baby every
chance to be healthy. Take care. Patricia P.

I got pregnant 9 months post op!!! I was surprised and had lots of
emotion... excited about our 4th baby but concerned about the nutrition for
the baby and also concerned about my weight loss. I had lost 90 pounds
before getting pregnant. During my pregnancy I gained about 15 pounds. My
doctors had me double up on the prenatal vitamin and I had labs drawn
throughout the pregnancy. It was hard. I was very tired and I had a hard
time getting in all the nutrition and felt like I was eating all the time
(which messed with my head). I craved carbs/sugar all the time and it was a
tough battle. My baby was born with a right clubbed foot, this runs in my
husbands family and doctors say thats what caused it. But deep down I
wonder if it wasn't my lack of nutrition? Otherwise the baby was healthy
and I made it. I have lost 10 of the 15 pounds so I have 5 more to go to
get to prepregnancy weight. Then I still have 45 original pounds to lose.
I'm afraid I missed out on those 9 months of losing weight and I wonder if
it will ever happen now? My other main concern was nursing. I have nursed
all my kids to 12 months. My baby is currently 4 months old and so far I'm
able to nurse, but again I have to eat all the time to keep my milk supply
up. My nutrition at this time is horrible. I just had my labs done and I'm
seriously deficient in B-12 and prealbumin! My recommendation, having been
through it, is to wait if you can.
