Question:
I had Lap Band surgery 2 yrs ago, kept off 27 pounds, any ideas?
I am frustrated and still hungry. I have had 3 fills and food come back up. I would like to get some support. Thanks for listening. — lynnsuzanne (posted on July 19, 2007)

It's possible your band has slipped. The same thing happened to me. Call
the Dr ASAP

Have you been visiting your surgeon regularly? You should have regular
visits to ensure everything is fine with the band, your vitamin, protein
and calcium levels.
If you have food coming back up, there could be several things going on.
You could be eating to quickly, not chewing well enough, eating too much or
it could be a band issue.
If you have only kept 27 pounds off, my guess is you are putting too much
food in your pouch. Also, you may be taking in too many liquid calories
(milkshakes, etc.).
The band is a tool, but not the whole answer. It can be totally successful
though - my beginning weight was 240 pounds. I currently weigh 127. I
have had the band for 4+ years. my weight loss took about 14-15months but I
have maintained the weight loss without any real problems.
Please go see you weight loss surgeon and discuss the issues you are having
with him/her.

Schedule an appointment with your surgeon's office to get some advice.
With a correct level of fill, you should be eating a cup to a cup and a
half of food and staying content for 4-5 hours. If you're eating more or
getting hungry sooner, you probably don't have an adequate fill. Or if
you're not eating the right foods, you need to talk with a nutritionist and
get back on track. Our bands are great tools, but they are merely tools.
We have to make the right choices and keep our fill levels sufficient for
the tool to do its best.
