Hi carol i'm not anemic but I have a blood platelette problem. I had my
surgery 1 1/2 ago and I had some labs done because i'm now pregnant and
they found my blood platelette count was 25 now i'm taking prenisone and
they are up to 55 but still low. They are not sure why but don't feel it
is related to my surgery. I hope you find some answers. Jeannie

That is an expectable result if you were not taking a good iron all along.
Have to checked with the Grad gruop (1+ years out)? Many of us have
battled this and many of us have won! Some are on infusions, and some HAVE
been, but are able to maintain on orals, once they find the RIGHT oral for
them. I'm 12 yrs and have not been iron anemic since year #2.

Carol Sue:
I have been anemic, as well, but all my docs (surgeon, PCP and
hematologist) think it's unrelated to my surgery. I had lapband, so
malabsorbtion of iron is not an issue. Actually, my type of anemia is not
"diet-related"; my marrow is not regenerating itself as it
should.
This has been going on since I was about 6 months out. Last week I went for
a bone marrow biopsy to see what the devil is going on.
Anemia is nothing to mess around with, so try to stay on top of it. Keep
asking questions and ask other docs if you're not getting the help you
want.
Best of luck,
Bette
