My dr told me no real excerise (like a gym) for 3 months. However he did
want me walking. I think its great excerise and for someone that just had
surgery you need to not do things that can cause a hernia!

I was only told that I can walk and ride my bike at this time. I am not
allowed to do anything with stomache until a year out. I can also so light
weights for my arms. Hope this helps. Walking is the best for us at this
time.

Walking is the most prominent exercise for right now. The surgeon usually
advises the patient when its a good time to jog, life heavy weights.

Before I left the hospital I had to be up and walking. I was walking the
evening out of surgery. Once home I contacted the doctor's office and was
told it would be great if I continued walking on my treadmill because it
would help with blood circulation. I was told to be careful walking
outside due to tripping and falling. At my 3 month check up I was given
the ok to start using weight machines and have been fine ever since. I
still listen to my body in regards to the amount of weight but have had no
issues. Each recovery routine/doctor is different so follow your
individual protocol.

I'm almost 6 weeks out and I can say only one thing here.. NOT UNTIL YOUR
DOCTOR SAYS ITS OK!!!
I tore a muscle in my stomach post op when I ripped a stitch. Just because
you "feel" better doesn't mean that things are totally healed
yet.
Ask your surgeon when you can start and what can you do now? He will
probably say mild walking now and then give you a date when you can start
more moderate workouts.

Should you do any exercise? Yes. Every surgeon has their own plan of when
to allow for more strenuous activities and, as other people have mentioned,
check with them to see what you can do. However, every doc I've read about
has encouraged walking right off the bat. I was walking a couple hours
after surgery. It helps with the weight loss, circulation, and helps
prevent clotting. If you haven't been walking up to this point, turn off
the computer and go walk!

Talk to your doc. I think you need to be in close contact with him/her in
order to know what you should be doing right now. I know many people who
have been up walking for exercise almost since they left the hospital, and
then there was recently another woman I know of who did a little too much
right after surgery and ended up with a bowel obstruction from essentially
too much activity. I'm not exactly sure how much she had to do to get to
that point, but the crux of this is that you just need to be in contact
with your doctor and/or his staff to go over what you should be doing right
now. Good luck.

You should be up and walking Everyday, several times a day since hours
after your surgery. No weights for 8-12 weeks. Again, everyone is
different, consult your Dr or the Program Director (who is ususally an RN)
at the facility where you had your procedure. No one here knows what you
look like or just how heavy you where pre-op, or know your true health
status. You should have been given a schedule before you were discharged.
