Question:
Please respond to this if you consider yourself a slow loser
I wanted some feedback from those of you who coniser yourself a slow loser. I think I am one of those but wanted your opinios. I had my usrgery oct7, I am 12 weeks out, started at 261 and have lost 47 pounds. With that being said, what would be a realistic goal to set for myself to have lost by say 10 months? thanks, Kim Nelson e-mail is [email protected] — KIM B. (posted on January 3, 2004)

Hello. I think I am a slow loser too. I started at 245 and at 12 weeks I
had lost 47# also. Right now I am 17 weeks out and have lost 61. There is a
webpage that I sometimes compart to it is www.smallerself.com/stats/ . I am
losing close to the same rate as her so I'm not too worried. She made it to
130 in 11 1/2 mos. As long as you are losing it is good!

I am almost 5 weeks post op and have lost 19 pounds. I started at 248,
down from 270 after losing 22 pounds pre-op on Atkins. I thought I would
have lost more by now....

You're doing great. You're not a slow loser.
You're body knows when it'll stop losing weight. I think 130s, 120s, are
perfect targets for goal weights, and if you go past that, yippiee!!!
I think you'd be happier with yourself if you didn't set a goal, but just
let nature take it's course and see where you happen.
People don't realize that you lose a percentage of your weight. If you
compared what you lost to someone who had maybe 150 or 200 pounds to lose,
you'd be right on track.
I was 247 going into surgery, and here I am, 2 months later, and I'm down
40 pounds. My doctor says that is right on target. Most people who are
dropping 50 pounds a month or more are 300 pounds plus. Once they reach the
low 220s, they lose at the same rate we do.

Hi Kim! Congratulations on your 47lbs. lost. I think you are doing very
well! I had surgery 05-28-03 weighing 284lbs. I have now lost 85lbs. I now
weigh 199lbs. At about 4 months post-op, I was thinking I was losing to
slow also, but in retrospect, almost 100lbs. in 7 months would NEVER have
happened before this surgery. My BMI has gone from 46.9 to 31.2 and my
clothes from a 24 to a comfy 16!!! So don't get discouraged, you are doing
GREAT!!!

Hi Kim! Although, I'm 4 years out in April, we are the same stats. I
started at 260 and was down at 12 wks 48 pounds. I too feel I was about 10
pounds behind the "average" I was down 94 pounds by 10 mo. Got
down to a size 8 at 148# 5'3".(goal) I lost slow until 17 mo out. I
maintained within 5 pounds the whole 4 years. I kept a weekly chart of
weight loss, but saw a pattern of the monthly. I think losing slow was good
because it gave me more time to learn the rules and they have become habit.
GOOD LUCK!!

My doctor said that it is % of body weight that you loose. They want me at
25% at 3 months and I am 5 weeks post and am at 20%. Six months at 50% and
One year at 80% and if it is better than that its great. Hopes this helps
it really helped me.

I am 8 months out and down 105 lbs. I started at 320+ and I am now at 215.
I knew I was a slow loser before I had the surgery - thats why I had it.
But when you sit back and think about it, it's really not that slow. You
are doing fine. Everybody is different, everybody loses at a different
rate. My New Years resolution is to quit obsessing about my weight, relax
and see where this journey takes me. Even if I never lost another pound I
am so much better off now than when I started. I think we are all doing
great:)

I believe I am a slow loser. By 3 months postop I had lost about 50
pounds. Now I am over 6 months out and I just hit 75#. I started at 265
and 5'2". You can view my profile to see my monthly losses.

I think I'm a slow loser, but being a lightweight, I expected that. I
weighed 254 the day of surgery (9/11/03), and now weigh 198, so I've lost
56 pounds in about 4 months (I weighed 270 at the end of May 2003-lost 16
on my own before surgery). Believe me, I'm ecstatic to have lost this
weight - I never could have done it through diet and exercise, at least not
this fast. No, I could not have done it through diet and exercise alone -
I tried for 25 years and didn't do it! So no matter how slow I lose at
this point, it's all good. I have actually not set any long-term weight
goals. I reached my first milestone last week by going under 200 pounds
for the first time in 25 years. My next little goal is to weigh less than
my husband (185). I'm not sure what I'll shoot for after that, I just know
I'm happy with where I'm headed. Good luck to you.
