I have BC/BS HMO and I had no problem getting approved and we have only
been with this insurance company for a couple months when my husbands job
changed owners. So I hope this is helpful. 14 days post op down 35 lbs.

As long as you have continous coverage for 6 months before the change then
you will be fully covered. I have the same insurance in NY and have had
not problems. Everything went smooth the first time. Good Luck Tara

I have heard all kinds of rumors about BCBS changing their WLS policy in
2004. I am pretty sure that it depends on the policy your particular
company has. You may want to call and verify so you will know what to
expect. I have BCBS PPO in Alabama and I had no problems getting approval
and 100% was paid. I have heard that in our state, you are going to have
to pay 1/2 and BCBS will pay 1/2 starting 1/04. But at the same time, you
know how RUMORS are. I think it is shameful for an insurance company to
deny anybody this life changing surgery. Best of luck to you. Michelle
