Question:
how much to bypass
I'm conserned with the amount the surgion decides to by-pass.The surgion I've meet with does a standard amount(100cm)Is everyones absorption rate the same? Will it be enough or too much? — ROBERT G. (posted on October 19, 2003)

My surgeon does 100cm on every patient. I have lost 115 pounds in 9 months
and am within 10 pounds of my goal. The bottom line is that it is how you
use your tool and how compliant you are to your post op diet. Everyone in
my group loses but at all different rates. You can tell who is compliant
and who is not. My doctor says that he does exactly the same surgery on
everone so that nobody can blame their failure or success on the surgery
alone.

My surgeon does 150 cm on every patient. It is up to the individual
surgeon (and sometimes the insurance company) how much they bypass. I lost
100 pounds in 5 months, 120 in 6 months and have stabalized with a 181
pound loss.

I had 100 cm bypassed and have lost 100 lbs in 5 months. I think that is a
standard amount... some surgeons do less, some more. As far as the
previous poster mentioned about no dumping... with my 100 cm, I definately
DO dump sometimes everytime I eat, even if it's just protien (depends on
seasonings)

I had the 100cm bypassed and I definitelty DO dump. I have never tried any
sugary foods but dump on some pretty mundane things like protein bars that
have sugar alcohols as well as things that have a lot of fat.
