Question:
How Long Post Op Before Sex Is Okay?
I JUST WANTED TO KNOW HOW SOON AFTER SURGERY WILL YOU BE ABLE TO MAKELOVE WITH YOUR HUSBAND? DOES IT DEPEND ON HOW YOU FEEL OR DO YOU WAIT TO YOU SEE THE DOCTOR (SERIOUS QUESTION NO PLAYING AROUND) THANKS — D. WILLIAMS (posted on June 30, 2003)

Well I suppose that depends on the type of surgery you had but my doctor
advised me to wait until my 6 week check-up.
I had Open RNY in September 2002. IMHO, it's best to contact your surgeon's
office for any particular questions you may have since they are the one's
who know exactly what the surgery entailed.

I'm 10 days post-op, and I did ask my doctor the same question and his
reply was, "As soon as you get home if you want, as long as your not
to athletic and don't swing from the chandelier." I was surprised he
said that but he really got me laughing after a remark like that, so was he
and his nurse. But still haven't felt that I was physically able to make
love to my husband yet. I'm Glade he's a patience man. LOL.

At my 2 week check up I asked the same question, and she said as long as he
did all the work she had no problem with it. Good luck!

I'm 6 weeks post-op. I didnt really feel up to it until 5 weeks. I never
actually asked my Dr when. I've been through other surgeries,(
Hysterectomy, gall bladder, c-sect) and was always told " when YOU
feel ready". So. I was ready at 5 weeks. :-). Good luck to you.

Ummmm, I never asked my doctor. I just did it. I think the idea that we
couldnt do it drove my hubby crazy. We did it about 5 days post op. I had
open VGB so we were VERY careful.

My doctor gave me medical clearance at three weeks. I know all doctors are
different.

I'm just 2 weeks post-op and hubby and I had sex yesterday and it was
great! I had an open VGB. I didn't ask my doctor. I just went with what
felt right for me.

Hi... It depends on how you feel. Don't try too soon, give your tummy time
to heal... but you are the best judge of when to get romantic again! :~)
Trust me... a few weeks of weight loss, and hormone release from fat... you
will be "randy" in no time! LOL!! I was really very sick prior to
wls, so it took me a while longer than most... I was about eight weeks
out... but I was "randy" long before then. It just hurt too bad
to do it. SO, if you do try, be prepared not to follow through, just in
case! My hubby is 12 months out, I am 18 months out and we are just...
highly romantic! ROFL! Good Luck, and don't worry! It will happen quicker
if you don't push it! :~)
