Cathy~I had to purchase insurance to get the Open RNY. I purchased Blue
Cross Blue Sheild Personal Choice PPO (I live in pa so i dont know if
prices vary per state or not) I pay $404.90 a month for insurance. For
personal choice all you needed was a BMI of 40 or over and bam your
approved. It took 6 hours for me to get approval the monday befor my
surgery (they moved it up 2 weeks!) that was on a friday...so it was last
minute approval but Personal Choice is the EASIEST insurance company to
work with. I give them an A+++++.....best of luck to you!

Hi, I checked with an insurance broker here in Oregon about buying my own
personal insurance just to cover the surgery. He said that there is no way
possible for this to happen. You would have to be on with the insurance
company for so long over a year.. and make sure that was written in the
contract before purchasing, and the cost of haveing a personal policy is
enormus. I wish I had better news .... Karen Wyatt
