Question:
shouldn't I be losing faster?
I am 5 months post-op and have lost 100 lbs, now I know I should be thrilled with that, but I started out at 475, 5'9. I see a lot of people my size have lost 100 lbs in three months, I guess I am so scared of this surgery not working because of the many, I mean many, past failures at weightloss. I guess I just need reassurance that I can lose another 150 lbs before my window of opportunity closes. thanks so much! Sandy Wilmes — SANDRA W. (posted on April 24, 2002)

Don't worry. Everyone loses at different rates. Based on the info you
gave, you are doing great. I am 5 feet tall and started at 248 lbs. It
has been 5 month, almost 6. I have lost 70 lbs. A lot less than you, a
lot less than a lost of people. I talked to my surgeon and he assured me
that I am doing fine...and you are too! Keep up the good work! You are
going to be beautiful!!!!!

You are doing fine! As the other post said, everyone loses at their own
pace. About your "window of opportunity." You can still lose
weight after the 12 - 18 month time frame they talk about, you will just
have to work at it. You know, actually count calories and that kind of
thing. So relax, you're doing great! Keep drinking you water, keep your
protein intake up and carb intake down, and keep exercising. It will come
off!

I hope you will take the time to read my profile. I started out at 407
lbs. and needed to lose approximately 217 lbs. total! This seemed SOOO
un-doable. Now, 13.5 months post-op, I'm 40 lbs. from goal. I have lost
177 lbs. I am still losing 6-10 lbs. per month, so I'm hopeful that I will
reach my very realistic goal of 190 (I am 5'9 1/2) before my "window
of opportunity" closes. Don't worry - you can do it!
