Question:
Is there anything to relieve the dumping syndrone or do you have to just wait it out.
I thought maybe there was something I could do to help get rid of it quicker. Do you keep drinking or just nothing till it is over. I got hold of some yougart that had to much sugar I guess. I wasn't trying to cheat or anything like that. Just trying to get the protein in. I never want to go through this again. — JUDY E. (posted on April 15, 2001)

Dumping depends on the individual. According to my surgeon over 70% of
bypass patients dump forever, to one degree or another.
This is why I am getting a lap band, I REALLY dont want to dump.
Carnie Wilson was on Oprah the other day, she had bypass over a year ago
and dumps on inappropiate things like mayo.
Dr Schauer in Pittsburgh says he wishes everyone would dump permanetely. It
helps people avoid the wrong foods, Someone at his support group dumps for
45 minutes, and one of his staff dumped recently on fresh pineapple. She had
bypass surgery herself.
Hopefully you will be able to eat small quanties of most foods, including
sugars and fats.
Although you should of been informed this MAY be permanent and is only
preventable by not eating the offending foods.
I get a sort of dumping on chocolate milk and am pre surgery. I never drink
chocolate milk on a empty stomach and that helps.

I eat yogurt every morning for breakfast. There are many brands out there
that are Lite brands, I personally like the Kroger lite brand has around 10
grams of sugar in an 8 oz cup, also like the Walmart brand called Blue
Bunny Lite 85 (it is sweetened with Splenda a 6oz cup has 8 grams of sugar
and 6 grams of protein. They have many flavors that are great tasting.
You did not say when you had your wls it was several months before I tried
to eat a whole cup of yogurt now I am 1 year post op and 5 pounds from
goal, I do not have a problem eating a cup of yogurt at a time. I had
distal gastric bypass and have found that I have not problems with sugar as
long as I stay aound 10-11 grams of sugar. Good luck hope this gives you
some suggestion on brands that don't do you in with the sugar.

Drinking only makes the symptoms worse! It creates a worse
"crisis" in the gut, so the body has to try harder to stablize
you. Be thankful you dump! Don't try to bypass this handy little feature.
At 2 years post-op, people wish for 2 things: dumping and that they had a
smaller pouch! So, if you try to hold yourself to 6-10g of sugar PER MEAL
(not per food item or serving), you can probably avoid dumping. The
accidental side effect of avoiding dumping is that you also lose more wt
& are less likely to regain.
