I have been referred to Dr. Joel Freeman in Ottawa Ontario Canada...anyone ever had him? Does anyone know of a good Doctor for the surgery in this area?? — Tammy M. (posted on May 26, 1999)

Hello Tammy,
I can't give you information about your doctor, but I have something else
to add that you may find useful.
Several wls patients (pre and post-op) are also posting to
[email protected]
The ossg stands for "over weight surgery support group", and if
you go to www.onelist.com you can also find ossg which covers the states
mostly, and I've heard there is an iossg (the "international"
group).
Our Canadian group is not as over whelming, and I hear there are about 25
members! But just recently we became much more assertive. At present the
group is working on creating a letter that we can mail to doctors and
college of physicians and politicians to try and make them understand that
we need greater access to wls, more kinds, more doctors doing it etc.
If you didn't know about that list, I hope you give it a try. Someone is
bound to know that doctor and be able to give you some sound advice.
Besides, the group (mostly ladies, but not ALL) is trying to find out which
doctors do wls in Canada, and support them.
I am having wls July 6 with a Dr. Sanderson in Toronto, and I can hardly
wait.
I wish you luck and joy in this process you have begun. I know you will
get good information from others who have already been through it and are
starting to disappear <g>
God bless
Kathy

Dr Freeman was my doctor here in Ottawa for over a year but his waiting
list is ridiculous. He is supposed to be an excellent surgeon and is the
only one currently performing WLS here in Ottawa. I gave up and had my
surgery in Rochester by Dr O'Malley...OHIP covered everthing.
