Question:
DS bowel movements after sugery

I have been told by one Dr that you poop and dont even know it some times, but I have been told by another Dr that this is the best surgery for me....I need help    — sheryl_66_2000 (posted on July 27, 2010)

I am sorry I have not heard that one... I am thinking of having a RNY, but all these side effects are scaring me. What else have you heard?

Hi I had the DS surgery and I hadn't heard anything about having a bowel movement without knowing it. I know I haven't any trouble like that and I'm now seven months out now. I'm really glad I had this surgery it has helped me a lot, I know I would have not been able lose this large amount weight without it. best of luck!

That's a myth, perpetuated mainly by surgeons who don't perform the DS surgery. I'm two years out from my DS and have had no such experiences. I have one or two bowel movements a day, usually in the morning, with no more urgency than pre-op. Stick with that second doctor; he has your best interests at heart.
