Question:
Pregnancy after lap band
I was just told that if I get pregnant now that I have had my surgery they have to go in and surgically remove my port in the 1st trimester. Has anyone else heard this or has anyone gotten pregnant after having the surgery? — kerstin131 (posted on February 3, 2010)

There was a girl in our support group up in Livingston NJ, she lost weight
and became pregnant and all the doctor did was take all the fluid from her
band during the pregnancy. I remember her getting up in front of the group
and telling us that she was still eating healthy and getting in the protien
with shakes which is good for her baby and she said she will go back to
fills after her baby is born. I would check with your doctor about that or
get a second opinion, it seems crazy to have surgery again and risk
everything.

I had realize band. I unintentionally got pregnant 3 months after surgery
and after only one fill. My port was not removed. I didn't have any fluid
removed either. I was able to eat enough food to grow a 9lb baby. My
surgeon told me that we would only remove fluid or do anything like that if
there was a problem with me being able to eat enough to grow a healthy
baby. My port area did get sore, but I had no problems with my band at
all. And after my daughter was born I started back to getting fills and
working on weightloss.

I never had my port removed when I had a lapband. The band did make my
pregnancy pretty bad in the end though. My band never had a fill in it,
but it seemed as the months got further along the less and less food I
could consume until right at the end, it felt like the baby was pressing up
against my diaphragm and I couldn't eat anything. I spent my last month
trying to get down liquids only because solids were not an option. Of
course, not everyone has this problem. I was just plagued with problems
from the beginning.
