5 days post op I could only keep down isopure liquid protein, water and
herbal tea. Sugar free popsicles would have been a godsend. The liquid
protein didn't taste great, but I sipped it very slowly. At first, tiny
sips are best.
Not to worry. You will heal and feel much better very soon. I'm only 5
months post op, and can tolerate almost anything. Not that that is a good
thing.
Take it easy, and slow. Be kind to yourself. Some folks swear by SF
pudding, but it had too much sugar alcohols for my surgeon's liking.
Follow your surgeron/nutritionist's diet plan and you will do super and be
healthy.
Not that this is easy. I have head problems about food and still am not
perfectly on track, though ahead of schedule on weight loss.

I don't know if you have Kroger Grocery stores where you live but they have
a yogert called Carb-master. It has 80 calories and 12 protein. It tastes
better than regular yogert. I eat 2 a day. Good luck.

Hi ! I am 11 months out and went thru the same thing. I had a real problem
with some of the sugar substitutes gagging me. I found Unjury , unflavored
protein powder and still take it! I mixed it with milk in the beginning,
now I mix it with nestles flavored water. I can tolerate some of the
substitues that gagged me before, but I like unjury and it gets delivered
to me,,,no running out! It comes in a variety of flavors and even chicken
soup broth flavor.
As far as things to eat, I used to heat up v-8 and put a lil garlic and blk
pepper in it and ate it like soup. It felt like food, but counted as
liquid. Sounds like you are eating everything else like I did. Good Luck
and Congrats! I went to curves after my 4 week check and was walking about
30 mins a day from about 3 days home. Talk to DR oiffice if unsure. If I
may suggest also..I know at this stage you do not need to count calories,
But I have always kept track of my liquid intake , my grams consumed and my
calorie intake. I still do. I started because my mind is so forgetful I
couldn't remember if I had taken vitas and calcium and how much I had
drank. Now I just do it to keep track of things. I buy those little memo
books and write everything down. Helps me a great deal and now I am
maintaining , so I like to keep track of my calories. Best of Luck again!

I don't where you are located but I order online from the
Vitaminshoppe.com. They have whey protein in Rocky Road flavor that is to
die for. I also have Chocolate Mint which is great also.
Those Carbmaster yogurts from Kroger, I could not get past the first bite
and I tried all flavors. I lived off of egg and cheese omelets, lowfat
cottage cheese and applesauce. I really like the Atkins Advantage liquid
drinks that have 15 grams of protein and only 1 suger. Strawberry is my
favorite but the vanilla with the Rocky Road protein is the bomb! I hope
this helps.
I walk about 30 minutes a day right now. My dr. says nothing more until 6
weeks out.

I AM ONE YEAR OUT AND STILL CAN'T TOLERATE CERTAIN PROTIEN DRINKS. ITS ONE
THAT I DRINK THAT TASTES GOOD ITS CALLED NECTAR. YOU CAN BUY IT AT BALLY'S
OR THE VITAMIN SHOPPE IT COST THE SAME IN BOTH PLACES. THE BEST FLAVOR IS
THE ICE TEA. YOU ADD ONE SCOOP TO ONE CUP OF WATER AND PLENTY OF ICE. I
FIND THAT IF I STAY AWAY FROM ALL THOSE FANCY FLAVORS I DO BETTER WITH
GETTING MY PROTEIN IN. YES AFTER ONE YEAR I STILL DEPEND ON PROTIEN
SUPPLEMENTS. I WANT TO MAKE SURE KNOW MATTER WHAT I GET MY PROTIEN IN
EVERYDAY. ALSO WHAT I LIKE ABOUT THIS PROTIEN DRINK IT CONTAINS NO MILK
PRODUCTS WHICH CAN CAUSE AN UP-SET STOMACH AND DIARRHEA. NECTAR HAS 23
GRAMS OF PROTEIN PER SCOOP. TRY TO STAY AWAY FROM DAIRY AS MUCH AS YOU CAN
SOY IS BETTER TOLERATED TO OUR NEW POUCHS. SOY MILK, SOY YOGURTS, AND
SPEADS CAN BE PURCHASED AT MOST MARKETS. MAKE SURE THEY ARE LABLED VEGAN
THAT WAY YOU KNOW IT CONTAINS NO MILK PRODUCTS AND ARE CRAB FREE. ONE MORE
THING ABOUT NACTER YOU WILL NOTICE IT DO NOT SEPARATE AND LAST LONER AFTER
YOU MIX IT THAN THOSE CHOCOLATE DRINKS. ONCE YOU ADVANCE TO SOLD FOODS AND
ARE ABLE TO EAT PROTIEN BARS THEY ALSO HELP JUST MAKE SURE THEY ARE SOY AND
CONTAIN NO SUGAR ALCOHOLS WHICH CAN CAUSE GAS AND DIARRHEA. I WISH I HAD
MORE TO GIVE YOU THAT WILL HELP YOU THROUGHT THIS STAGE. AS YOU ALREADY
KNOW IT IS THE MOST DIFFICULT. NO TWO PEOPLE ARE THE SAME YOU HAVE TO TRY
AND FINE WHAT WORKS FOR YOU. JUST REMEMBER PROTEIN, PROTEIN, PROTEIN. GOOD
LUCK!!!

I love Tangerine Orange and Wild Berry Zinger teas by Celestial Seasonings.
I would brew a 32 ounce container using two tea bags and letting it steep
for a while. Then, I would pour in one New Whey Orange flavored protein
bullet. You can get it from the Vitamin Shoppe and most
GNC stores. You don't have to go online to get it. It has 42 grams of
protein (but be careful, they DO sell one the same size that only has 25
grams of protein). The flavor is sweet-tart and really adds zip to the
tea. Then I sip on it all day long, along with my other water. It makes
it easier to get in all the 64 oz my surgeon wants me to drink. There is
also Iso Pure ready to drink clear liquid protein in 20 oz glass bottles,
with 40 grams of protein. It tastes kind of like adult koolaid. I prefer
the Grape Frost and Icy Orange flavors, although the Orange Pineapple
Banana is good, too. And this is not to mention the Syntrax Nectar protein
powders.... like Fuzzy Navel, and Roadside Lemonade - both clear liquids
and they go down easy. I think they have 23 grams of protein in them. You
can get them at Vitamin Shoppe, and some GNC stores. Finally, GNC carries
a protein powder called Lean Dessert, and it's totally fabulous. With
flavors like Chocolate Coconut Candy bar, and Fresh Cinnamon Bun.... yummy.

Hi - I had lap RNY also on May 13, and have many of the same issues. My
husband made me some SF Pudding with a scoop of protein powder and skim
milk - I can eat about 2 oz at a time. I've also tolerated Fage Total Greek
unflavored yogurt - I can take a few bites. Sweet foods other than that
have been tough for me. I bought some protein Fruit Punch bullets, and they
are just gross now.
I am actually looking forward to eating cottage cheese w/ unsweetened
applesauce or eggs, but I have to wait until 14 days post-op till I'm on
soft foods. At this point, I'm still on full liquids and REALLY wanting
something savory since the sweet is tough.
The other posters have made somme awesome suggestions and I'll definitely
try some of them.
The main point, straight from my surgeon's mouth, is that the fist few
weeks, you are still swollen and your puch is tender - it is unrealistic to
be able to get all of your protein and liquid requirements in the first few
days and weeks - those #s are goals for you now and they want you to get as
close as you can in the early days. Once we are further into this, we
should have less difficulty getting in our protein. Obviously the more you
can get in the better, but everyone comes out of this surgery differently
and we can handle different amounts and tastes. What tastes good to me
might not taste good to you, so you have to take some time to find things
that work for you. I'm going through that now and it's frustrating a
little, but also kind of exciting. Don't worry - the fact that you're
trying to get good tricks and looking for suggestions means that you'll
meet those needs sooner than later. At this point, baby steps.
A few good resources for me have been Meltingmama.net,
theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com, and the book Before And After. She
has good suggestions to get you through the early stages.
Good luck and I hope you are recovering nicely! For me, each day gets
better and better, because the first days were REALLY TOUGH for me.

The thing that got me thru the beginning were soups. You have to strain
them but it was so nice to have flavor and I could tolerate warm liquids
better than cold. U could add some
unflavored anywhey to anything to give it a protein boost as long as you
don't boil it.
