My tastes and smells changed drastically after RNY. I can even smell water
now...and if we are driving on a road trip I can tell just before it rains,
or if there is a body of water nearby even if you can't see it...It's
weird! My sense of smell is really good and that can be bad for me, because
that strong sense of smell now makes food tastes magnified as well...Why?
I dunno! Never really looked for an answer...It's annoying though...I only
like quality/fresh food now...I can smell the difference between fresh and
frozen meals/foods, metal smells in meats, chemicals in water...meat and
veggies that are not fresh...I can tell homemade from store bought in an
instant...I can taste fats and grease in freid foods and it gags me...It's
a curse and a blessing.

Yes I noticed this too. It has to do with our hormones readjusting.

I am 8 months post-op LAP RNY and down 102 lbs. What about you coffee
drinkers out there? Ever since my surgery coffeee doesn't have enough
taste for me. It has to be really strong or flavored otherwise I feel like
I'm just drinking colored hot water! Also, the smell of chicken or other
BBQ items right after surgery used to make me gag. It's gotten better now
but it still isn't the greatest taste for me. Some things just may not get
better over time, others will. Just need to find what works for you. Good
Luck, Sue
