Question:
5 weeks post op an only lost 15 pounds
Has any one had this issue. I lost my 15 pounds in the first two weeks. I haven't lost a pound since. Feeling extremely depressed. I feel like I waisted my money. — [Deactivated Member] (posted on September 19, 2008)

I am 8 weeks out RYN. I have lost 25 pre- 42 pro, Your doing great. It
slows a little. Fluid stores in body. This will ease up also. Relax hide
the scale I weigh about every 3 weeks.
Keep up the good work.

Let me ask you this...when was the last time you lost 15 lbs in less than 5
weeks?? Do are doing fine. You will hit stalls all through your
weightloss so you need to find a way to keep from getting discouraged or
depressed. I am 6 months out right now and in a stall and I know that I
will start losing again. Your body is in shock right now...give it a
break. And do what the other person said and hide the scale. :o) You
will drive yourself nuts with that thing. This journey takes a year or
longer depending on how much weight you've got to lose...5 weeks is too
early to have regrets. You are doing amazing and you will continue to do
amazing. I'd love to hear from you in about 3 months to see how far you've
come. Keep your chin up and be proud of yourself. You're really doing
great!!!

I feel exactly the way you do!!!! I feel like I just gave 14K away. I am
4 weeks post op and have only lost 18lbs and 8 of those was pre op. I have
not dropped a pound since week 2. I am exercising and upping my liquids
and protein and still nothing. Everyone keeps saying to give it time but 4
to 5 weeks come on. At the present I would not recommend this op to
anyone. I pray that I have to eat my words but right now I am really
thinking I made BIG MISTAKE.
I am sorry if these aren't the uplifting words you need to hear but I just
want you to know that there are others out here who aren't losing either.
I guess we are the silent ones because we feel like we are doing something
wrong.
Please let me know when and if your stall passes.

I think you are doing great. I had lap band and only lost 8 lbs and I am in
the middle of my 4th week. It could be anything. Everyones body is
different. Dont compare you weight loss with someone else . I know how you
feel, I was severely depressed and then found out I had kidney stones and a
uti infection and my doctor said that was why I was probably not losing. I
am NOT telling you this because I thinks something is wrong with you I am
just telling you that are bodys are comples, we hold water for all
different kinds of reasons but I know when we have worked so hard and dont
see it on the scale its depressing. Dont give up hope. Your body is just
adjusting. Besides I think 15lb is great. Dont compare yourself to others .

I forgot to say in my opening question. I converted from band to Lap-RNY. I
had the Lap-band for 3 years only lost 67 pounds and that wasn't easy.
Prior to Lap-band surgery I weighed 257pds. Needless to say I gained the 67
pounds back in under 2 years. When I researched RNY I was of the impression
that I would lose the weight quickly at the start. I think that's why I'm
feeling depress. I know I'm a food addict and if I was able to diet I
wouldn't have had the surgery. On top of that I can eat more than a half a
cup of food. My spirits are really low right now.

Hi Tracy,
I certainly understand the feeling that you are having. I am 5 months rny
and have only lost 54 pounds, I have been on this plateau for at least 8
weeks. I am feeling very depress and discourage. dont really know what to
do any more. I feel like I have failed already.

I feel all of you need to check your proteins. If you don't eat enough of
them your weight loss will be slow. Some people think the less they eat the
more they will lose. This is not true. Also the more water the better. I
know right after surgery it is hard but for right now try and eat every so
many hours, so you can get your protein.

I did almost the same thing except my loss was 16 lbs. Then there was a 2
1/2 week plateau. My husband was shocked and wondered if the doctor made a
mistake. I read a bunch of books before hand and had to attend 6 months
worth of classes so I knew about the plateaus. I'm 2 months out now and
down 37 lbs. I think I'm hitting another. You'll have plateaus throughout
your journey. As frustrating and scarey as they are, they'll pass.

Hi, I look at this way 15 lbs is great the first 2wks. I lost 14 lbs the
first two weeks then the next 3 weeks I lost 1 lb I thought the same as you
but when I went for my 3 month check up I lost 24lbs now I'm out another 2
wks and only lost 2lbs. You will have alot of stalls but I have lost alot
of inches and I'm down 3 sizes. Hang in there you will start seeing
results. I sooooo glad I had my surgery (RNY) and I would do it all again.

I am 13 weeks out and have only lost 50 lbs...I shouldnt' say only...I am a
slow loser, but I was dehydrated for 3 weeks and didn't lose a thing in
that time..you have to be hydrated to lose. I lose about 2 lbs a week. But
I started out at a lower weight than those who lose a lb a day...perhaps
you will too. Hang in there and take this time to change your thoughts on
food...its fuel ...and eat only what your body needs... I hope this helps!

Think about what you said, 15 pounds in 5 weeks, that's an average of 3
pounds a week, EXCELLENT. Now, are you getting your fluids in? How about
your protein? What is your calorie intake? If you are not feeding your body
you will not lose weight. Take it one day at a time, and I agree GET RID OF
THE SCALE. You will see the inches melting away soon.
