call around to surgons to see if the accept medicaid and go to semninars. I
have medicaid in Alabama and only like 3 in the state pay for it. Check ur
state medicaid website to see the requirements as well. Most require at
least 6month supervised diet by ur dr, bmi or 40 or greater as well as
medical conditions causeed by obesity.>>>The houston herman
memorial group 713-892-5500 also takes some medicaid/medicare not sure of
the details

H,
I also have medicaid..but it is in Florida. I had to contact medicaid and
find out whic of there ins. covered WLS. When I got that info I was able
to seitch during my open enrollment time. But while I was waiting I had all
the info to get my dr. visits out of the way. I saw different Dr's that did
the surg and got all there pre requisites , like going to a info session at
the different hospitals. Also, find a support group in your area. They are
a world if info and help. It is worth the time it takes. Had my WLS
7/1/08. Best of luck, dont give up keep pushing and you WILL get there!

Kimberly, I'm sorry, but I was going to move to Texas and have the surgery
there where a friend was going to help me. I thoroughly researched the
matter and Texas Medicaid will not pay for the surgery. You can have
Medicaid AND Medicare, but you'll have a good bit of out of pocket expense.
Texas is a no go if you are on Medicaid. You options are to self finance
or move temporarily to a state that will pay. Louisiana will and it's close
to you, just bring hurricane gear. That's why I'm not there now. The
hospital I was scheduled in was underwater after Katrina. Sorry to have to
tell you this, but it's the truth.
