My thyroid pills I was able to take right away as they are very tiny. I
also have ADHD and did stop taking the meds for that for 2 to 3 months..
but then worked with my doctor to get on different pills that were small
enough so that I could swallow them. But I have several friends that did
get pill crushers from drugstore and seemed happy with that.

I worked with my PCP, I only started taking the ones I truly needed. If my
BP was not high, I did not continue that one. Same went for meds for
migraine prevention. If the symptoms didnt return, then I didnt take the
meds. It was a risk, but it was supervised by my PCP.

The day after sugery I was able to take the medications that they were
going to allow me to take. They took away four medications that I don't
need any more. Lisa

Deborah, I am 5 months post-op RNY and have lost 80. The morning of
surgery I took the meds that were absolutly necessary, which were my pain
meds. I have a really bad back, and my motivation for loosing weight was
sparked by the fact that I need back reconstruction and the ortho.
specialist said he would not touch me untill I lost weight. I am in
constant pain and because of that the pain Dr. has me on strong opioids
which are very physically addicting. If I miss for more than 18-20 hours I
start going through withdrawls. It has happened because sometimes I
forget. My body reminds me. Anyway even though your not suppose to have
anyting after surgery the first day I crushed one and just ate it. Not
fun, but necessary and no harm. The next morning I took my regular two
pills, broke them in half and took each half about 5 minutrs apart with
little one oz. sips of water. Buy the third day I could take them whole
because they are small, about the size of an asprin. On a normal morning,
I take 10 pills. Couple of them are big so I would cut them in half. It
would take me about an hour to get them all down. Over the months, it got
better, and now after about 3 1/2 or 4 months I was able to just dump them
all into my mouth and wash them down with a couple gulps of juice.
Everyone said, OH! if you loose weight your back won't hurt, but they were
wrong, because my problem is structural. I still need to loose about 50
lbs. more before I go back to the ortho Dr. again. Good luck w/your
surgery and don't be alarmed about how you feel for the first few weeks,
before you know it you'll feel back to normal and will have lost a ton of
weight. It is so worth it. Paula B.
