Question:
I feel nauseous all the time, does anyone else feel this way?

It doesn't matter what I eat, I feel sick to my stomach afterwards. Does any one know what helps this feeling?    — Abby P. (posted on July 25, 2008)

What helped me more than anything thru the nauseous stage was cheese & crackers. I bought the low fat Cracker Barrell cheddar cheese sticks with low fat Town House crackers. I ate only this for many, many days. It was the only thing that never made me feel sick.

I am almost 4 months post op and have suffered with nausea alot. My Dr. put me on Prilosec but that didnt work. I found a product at my local grocery store called KEFIR it is a relative of yogart and it soothes my stomach every time and an added bonus is that it contains alot of protein as well.

Nausea is a very common problem after WLS, contact your surgeon and ask him to prescribe something for you and/or offer help or suggestions. I didn't experience it personally, so I can't give any personal tricks or suggestions... sorry. Dawn

Dr will prescribed something, or Papaya Supplement (from GNC). 3 mos. after surgery I had surgical procedure (nothing to do with BPS), and something about having the intubation (tube down your throat for breathing during surgery) opened up the esophagas and I was instantly able to drink more and not so nauseated. Now, if I am nauseated, which still happens 3 yrs post op - I usually have gas in my stomach. I use Maalox (Extrastrength) or GasX to relieve these symptoms. Please talk to your surgeon or PCP first, you might have some reflux or stomach acid problem that needs assistance.

I am almost 3 weeks out and I have the same problem, just not as extreme. I do get nauseous very often and I have not been able to determine any type pattern, sometimes just drinking water does it. I eat a couple of saltine crackers which I know is not on my diet but it does give a little relief. I will be going to my post-op appt on Mon and I oplan to tell Dr about it.

I am in the 4th week after surgery and have had little nausea. My main food is cottage cheese and cooked broccoli pureed, natural applesauce, fat free yogurt, and protein shake. My limit is 4 oz. I usually have 2 to 3 oz every 2 to 4 hours. Less more often of the pureed cold foods has helped. When I venture it is in 2 oz or less with or without a little of one of the above. The pain med made me the most sick so I stopped it the first day in the hospital. Good luck and just go real slow and real little and hopefully it will help.

I am over four years post op roux en y. I suffer from c hronic nausea 24 hours 7 days a week. It gets so severe at times I become dehydrated and have to go to the emergency room to get rehydrated. I have also been hospitalized numerous times as well for dehydration. I take two different anti nausea medications and it does not always work but it better than not taking anything. I take zofran (very expensive about $1500 a month and promethazine. I also had to have a feeding tube for 8 months 11 months post op because I was not able to keep anything down and I had to use a special pump to slowly infuse formula because if it was just gravity fed I would be very sick. I still throw up to this day and have had numerous tests but all were normal. I dont mean to scare you with the complications I have had but it does happen. I hope that your nausea issue can be dealt with immediately and that no further nausea issues plague you.
