Question:
Has anyone heard of becoming epileptic after Lap Rny?

I had my lap Rny surgery on Jan. 04, 2008 and have lost 72 pounds. Recently I think I may have had a seizure. I was sleeping at the time and my husband woke up to me shaking and making a gurgling sound and he could not wake me up. I am currently getting tests ran but this has only happened that one time and I have felt fine since. I was wondering if anyone has heard of anyone having seizures after surgery?    — minyana3 (posted on May 2, 2008)

I have not heard of it. Hopefully others can share light. Since I had surgery on Jan. 7, I thought you might want to hear from someone who is about the same time "out." Getting tests run, I am certain, is the right thing to do. Best wishes, dana

I have read that lack of the "B" vitamins and other nutritional deficiency can cause nuerological "wiring" problems. Have you had your labs drawn. I hope this helps.

Having a single seizure does not make you epileptic. There are a lot of reasons why you could have had a seizure and most have nothing to do with weight loss surgery. Did your husband call 911 or did you receive medical care immediately afterwards? If it only happened once, you don't have any other symptoms, you're being checked out by doctors, I would not worry too much. Chances are this was an isolated event.
