Question:
I am 8 months out of surgery and I seem to lose a pound or two here and there but
there are weeks I stay the same for several weeks at a time is this normal? Also I have a real hard time eating anything during the day, I seem to get hungry at around 3 pm and then I want to eat as if it was normal hours. I don't feel I over eat but it is the eating at night cycle that I am afraid will sabotage my wls. Any suggestions? — neikoredsko (posted on May 1, 2008)

I am scheduled for the end of the month of May. I remember my surgeon
saying I would need to eat at set times and that some people even set a
timer. When you are not eating regularly, a little every 4 hours or so,
doesn't your body think you are in starvation mode and react by lowering
your metabolism. Eating regularly actually boosts your metabolism again.
Maybe you will need to eat three times a day a small amount whether you are
hungry or not. Wouldn't it be wise to check in with your nutritionist to
see what he/she thinks? Good luck. Don't give up you've come too far and
YOU ARE DEFINITELY WORTH IT!!! :)

My biggesdt meal is dinner,ut I still only can get down about 4 oz total.
I eat a small breakfast of fruits and some yougart, and for lunch I eat a
few oz of meat, and fresh veggies. Dinner, I will cook more than I can
eat, and so often I hold the left over for lunch the following day. Make
sure that you are sitting down, not watching TV and relaxed. I went to
smaller plates so my food did not look lost on a bigger plate. If I have
to have a snack it is 1% cheese, 1 to 2 oz or 1 oz of peanuts or mixed
nuts. Still need somthing, I still to Chrystal Light or water to fill me
up before bed time.

Stacy, how is your exercise? How is your water intake. Bump those up, and
don't worry about the numbers, we all lose differently, some a pound here
and there, and some every week. You are not me, and I am not you, but we
both can lose, so let's celebrate that and enjoy the day! Take care.

I'm a mth post-op and have not had a fill yet, although i don't eat much at
a time. But like you, i'm hungryst later in the day. And i get real hungry
before bed. My biggest meal is dinner and i try to drink a lot of fluids
before bed. For a snack i usually have a sting chs or yogurt then go to
bed. In the morning, i'm not hungry at all. I don't usually eat anything
till 11 or so. Everybody is different, the earlier post is right, it's good
to eat small meals thru out the day and keep your metabolism up. Good luck.

I have been facing the same thing the past week or so... wanting to eat
late. My counselor suggested that I first look at how much sleep I'm
getting. Then look at my food schedule and get back on a divided protein
schedule... meaning I eat a small breakfast, snack on a protein supplement,
have some lunch (yogurt is my usual), snack on my protein... Then go home
and have a balanced super. The key was having energy to last me throughout
the day to curb the evening cravings.

I'm not as far along as youare but for me, when I find myself more hungry
in the afternoon or evening, I know it's because I haven't had enough
protein that day. I use the protein whey bullets (they have 42 grams of
protein) when I am unable to get all my protein in food and the weight is
coming off pretty well. I had my surgery on 2/18/08 and have lost 50
pounds. Make sure you get your protein, drink your water and walk every
day.
