Question:
Can you fly with the g tube still in?
Hello everyone I am having the RNY on April 2 and have heard that this dr requires the tube to be in 5-6 weeks min.. I am flying from FL to Las Vegas May 1 and will still have the tube inserted. Does anyone know of any potential problems this may cause? — Monica P. (posted on March 24, 2008)

What kind of tube? I had my surgery in 2002 RNY and no tube.

Better question for me would be, how will you do flying for over 5 hours
after only 4 weeks?

Its a gastric tube that you can use to add fluids or meds if you become
dehydrated.

I had larposcopic RNY with two tubes. My dr. removes the gallbladder of
every patient to prevent gallstones in the future. He removed one tube the
day after surgery and the other one two days after. I would worry about
infection setting in. The best thing to do is call your dr. and ask him if
it is a problem traveling with the tube.

I would talk to your Dr. It is not safe for you to be sitting for that
long because of blood clots.
