Hi Carolyn, I had the Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy on Oct. 25, 2007. I had
high blood pressure, narcolepsy, bad knees, asthma, arthritis, sleep apnea,
and poor oxygen saturations problems when I sleep. I no longer need oxygen
at night (though I do still use my C-PAP), I am taking half my blood
pressure, asythma, and narcolepsy pills. My PCP says she will propbably
take me off all my meds in May. I am 60 and find this amazing. I can also
run a little which I haven't done in years (no more knee pain). Hope that
helps. Pat

Many morbidly obese people are very unhealthy and develop many problems
that are directly related...Once the weight begins to come off and the
person begins to eat healthier...the problems are completely resolved or
greatly improved with the loss of their weight.
I no longer have TypeII Diabletes, Hypo-thyroidism, severe arthritis in my
knees, GERD, Hiatal hernia....
They are all gone...with an occasional mild flare of knee pain.

Hi Carolyn,
If you would complete your profile more of us could better answer your
questions. We can not tell what kind of surgery you plan to have. I had a
RNY on December 5, 2007. I am a 62 year old male and have had type II
Diabeties for 25 years. I no longer have type II Diabeties,
Hypo-thyroidism, arthritis in my knees is almost gone, and my total
colestrol is 95! As they say in the ad's, rusults are not tipical. I go
to the gym every day and follow the doctors diet to the letter. Than means
no sugar, fat, rice, bread pasta and 70% of my calories comes from protien.
Depending on the surgery you elect to have and how well you manager the
tool they give you will depend on the results you see to your health. Don
excersize daily and cheat on the foods you eat and you will not have as
good as results as other that follow all the rules. Few are luck and skip
by doing the bare minimun and have good results, but I seen people drop out
of WLS support groups and stop losing. I had to pay for my surgery cash,
so I am going to make the most out of the money I invested in a new me.
Best of sucess to you.

I had my surgery on Mar. 7, 2007 weighing in 376 and have lost 185 pounds
in a little over a year. I no longer have high blood pressure, sleep apnea,
severe acid reflux, and diabetes.
I still have spine deteriorting disease and am in pain from that but all in
all I'm doing so much better! Also I couldn't walk a few feet without
gasping for breath but now I can go so much further and alot longer...

I had RNY almost a year ago and had full body edema, gouty arthritis in my
knee and high blood pressure. All but one of my symptoms completely
disappeared within 2 weeks after surgery. (I still have high blood
pressure, BUT that might be family inherited, and I am on a much lower
dosage of that medicine--instead of taking it twice a day, I only take it
once a day) God bless!

My knee pain has gotten better, but my back pain has gotten worse. My
depression got a lil better but now I also have anxiety. My acid reflux is
gone, but now suffer from pretty constant gas. I no longer have to take
allergy pills. All in All it was totally worth it. I would do it again in
a heartbeat.
Blessings Robin

Along with many of the illnesses listed here, I also had incontinence and
plantar facious that are both gone.

My surgery RNY-Lap did not get rid of my illnesses, but made them less
painful and more tolerable with meds. I have Rheumatoid arthritis and the
pain is not as it used to be because I have less pressure on my joints. My
high blood pressure must be hereditary related cause I never came off the
meds and bp is regulated with lower doses of meds and less. My health had
deteriorated to the point that most what was wrong with me was already too
bad to mostly correct. I have neuropathy of my feet and hands. My lower
lumbar deterioration is the most unbearable at times with the muscle spasms
that occur often. I got rid of the severe acid reflux, the sleep apnea is
gone. My seasonal allergies seem more during the season and where before
they were not as bad. But all in all I feel much better than before wls and
am glad to not be on any diabetic meds at all. As well as no meds for the
acid reflux. I was taking a total cost of meds at $340 a month or more when
the dosages were upped. I will say it depends on the person also and how
their bodies do after wls.
