I had the nissen fundoplication about 5 years ago and I am going to be
banded in about 6 months, I had a horrible time with reflux to the point I
could not eat mac n cheese because it was too much for me to handle, they
do it laproscopically like the band and they take the top part of your
stomach and wrap it around your esophougus to make it tighter, well that is
how they did mine. Being with the band and all they may need to move the
band down a little to accomodate for the part they use when they wrap
around.
I would do it again in a heart beat!

have you asked your dr. about taking meds for this, I had alot of problems,
they called it gerd, I went to a surgeon about it, and he said I had to
lose so much weight to have this done, it was dangerous, my spinchter in my
stomach doesn't work, that is the flap from your esophagus to your stomach
,when your esophasus pushes food down it should open and then close back,
mine doesn't. so the stomach dr. said with good meds I should be fine, I
take 2 -40mg prilosec a day, if I miss a day, I am miserable, but as long
as I take it I am fine. I used to keep laryngitis, bronchitis, pneumonia,
etc, this was because acid had ate a hole in my esophagus, went through a
ton of tests also to find all this out, just see if the dr. will give you
the same strength I had, over the counter prilosec just dont cut it. good
luck

I had a upper GI done about a month ago but the doctor didn't say I had a
Spinchter. The test showed a lot of reflux. I am on Nexium 40mg and does
nothing. I will check into that further.
