I am two years post op and at my one year anniversary I lost a total of 165
pounds. I think it all depends on how much you started with. I was 402
and lost 66 pounds before I had the surgery. I also exercised alot and
only ate really healthy foods. Good luck Jeannie

I'm 5 years out and started at 359. At 6 months, I'd lost 101, at 12
months I'd lost 161, and I lost another 32 pounds in the next year to total
193. I maintained that for a year but did gain 10-15 pounds back in the
last year and a half - completely my own fault as I fell back into some bad
habits - but it seems to be under control again.

please keep in mind that it all depends on what you started at -- a person
who has more weight to lose will lose more faster -- a person who is
lighter will lose less weight in the same amount of time -- and the fact of
the different types of surgery -- with RNY you have 'proximal' and 'distal'
which are two different types of surgery -- and people with the lapband
tend to lose weight more slowly -- exercise also plays a role in the weight
loss -- not everyone exercises the same way or the same amount of time --
this is really an individual program -- you can not compare yourself to
anyone else on these boards or anyone else who has had the surgery -- if
you do this then you will always feel like you have failed -- you will
think that you are not keeping up with everyone else -- the same is true
with clothing sizes -- everyone is built differently and they carry thier
weight differently -- and a person at 150 lbs but is only 5'2" is
different than someone 5'7" -- there are so many factors to look at --
the way i see it is like this -- when was the last time i lost 20lbs?
25lbs? or wore a size that didn't start with an 'X'? when was the last time
i was able to walk around the department store without hanging onto the
carriage to hold me up? i started at 228 lbs and i'm 5'3" and i was
wearing a 3X t-shirt and 2X track pants (i would never buy jeans) now i'm
147 lbs and i wear a size 6 jeans and a medium shirt and i'm 8.5 months out
-- my husband who is 6' even and started at 373 lbs a size 54 jeans and 4X
shirt is now 194 lbs and a size 36 jeans and a large to medium shirt and
he's 14.5 months out -- good luck to you :) Roberta

At six months I was down at least 100lbs, at a year I was down 177lbs, now
at 19 months post op I have lost 200lbs. I started out at 350lbs @
5'8" tall and now way 150lbs. I am having a tummy tuck this fall/early
winter annd the doctor is guessing anywhere from 10-14lbs of skin/tissue to
be removed. The true irony in life is now I am trying not to lose anymore
so I don't look too skinny after the tummy/mid body tuck. My best wishes to
and hopes for great success. PS I tell newbies that to remember this
process is not like a ala carte menu. You need to do the diet/eating habit
changes, meet protein needs and perhaps most important EXERCISE. In the
first few months you can lose weight with not that much effort, but as your
pouch stretches (from a walnut to a baseball) your body catches on to
things and tries to hang on to that fat.

I didn't lose any after a year... I went from 260 to 130 in less than a
year. I have fluctuated 5 to 10 pounds but I have been pretty steady. I
actually lost TOO much weight in the first year. Family/ friends said I
looked too skinny. My body just adjusted to my weight now. So I am at a
comfortable weight now in about 140's. I look healthy. I worked my butt
off that first year to lose the weight and pretty much have maintained
since then. I also had tummy tuck and breast surgery. Good luck and stay
strong. This is not easy but worth it for your health. : )
