Depending on your insurance and no complications...it's between 2-4 days.
Each surgeon is different. If indeed you're on your way to the losing
side...welcome.

I had my open RNY on Monday and came home Thursday afternoon. I think it
can also depend on any complications, thankfully I had none and my upper GI
showed no leaks so I was able to go home.
Good Luck!! If you have any questions , please let me know

Christy, many people who have open are in 2-4 days with no complications,
but I think it may be closer to 5-7 days for an open. I personally would
not be comfortable leaving the hospital with a huge incision in less than 5
days. Take your time in the hospital, it will prevent you from coming back
for a cameo visit too soon! Take care, Patricia P.

I went in on a Wednesday morning and was home Friday evening. No
complications and my surgery took 1 hr 45 min. Good Luck!

2-3 days mostly 2...the stay is not longer due to a cut, it is due to
complications , your co morbities etc. Just because you want to stay longer
does not fly, you must met criteria or the insurance will not allow that.

I went in on Tuesday and had open and came home on Friday and another lady
who was done on the same day right before mine had to stay till Saturday
due to complications and she was done laparoscopic. So it all depends on
each person and each surgeon. You can ask your dr for an estimate of time
of stay. That is what I did and he told me if everything goes ok I could go
home friday. I made plans with family to know if I could I would be going
home on Friday but if not it may be Saturday. Wish you the best of luck.
