I lost 8 lbs. on the pre-op liquid diet. I lost 10 lbs. 7 days out from surgery. I lost 20 lbs. 14 days from surgery. To date: 18 days out I am 23 lbs. down. I have a friend who only lost about 10 lbs. the first month after surgery and then one night woke up and lost 4 lbs. a few days later, more and more. Everyone is different, though....don't get discouraged. Keep doing what you are supposed to be doing and you will see results ;)

You cannot compare yourself with others. It all depends on how large you are...the larger you are the more you will lose. I think a pound a day is a good rule of thumb. I lost 8.5 lbs the first week but I am a lightweight. My doctor says 10-12 lbs a month is a good weight loss.

Carlene, you are going to lose as much weight as your body is gonna let you lose. People are different in size, weight, metabolism, drive and age. There is so much to consider. You can lose a lot, or you can be retaining fluids from surgery. One week out, I didn't lose much at all, but I lost consistantly over the first year (am 3 years out) and have taken off 120 pounds. Don't look to others success to gauge your own, it will only disappoint you. The questions you want to answer are, are you getting in your water every day? Are you staying away from caffine and soda? Are you eating solid protein or getting all your protein in? How much exercise are you doing daily? What are your plans to increase your daily output? All of these things will help you be successful and move you forward. Be sure you work at keeping your bowels moving, this is important. Be sure you get some sort of fiber or whatever it takes to keep yourself hydrated and "moving". Recover, but begin walking. March is a great time of year to have surgery, you can get outside almost right away and walk some, even if it is around the block. You are gonna have to fight for your weight loss, it will not come easy. You have a tool, not a miracle. Use that tool and it will be the best tool you ever had for your physical health. I also encourage to not weight too often, this can be a drag and depressing. You are up one day, and down the next. Then the head games begin, I deserve to eat this because I did so good, then I want to eat that because I won't lose anyway. The head games are tough. Put some boundaries in your life to prepare yourself for dealing with the head games, because "the games have begun". You will need all your strength and determination now. You have taken a good step, now fight for that weight loss, and let's see that new you shine girl! Take care, Patricia P
