Question:
Head Hunger vs. Physical Hunger
Can you guys tell me the difference between head hunger and physical hunger? I was banded last month, after being morbidly obese for many years, so learning the difference is very new for me. Thanks! — vaBansdter (posted on April 6, 2006)

Hi there ! I asked the same question right before my RNY and was told
this:
Head hunger is when you see food, commercials with food, smell food etc and
it makes you want to have the food whereas real hunger obviously would be
more of a physical reaction to actually needing to eat, like hunger pangs
etc. I hope that helps a bit - its the answer I received and since then I
have realized all of these years I have almost never been really hungry and
I have just eating 9 out of 10 times due to head hunger--ugh

My surgeon has us on a skim milk diet 4 weeks pre-op and being on that
really has helped me differentiate between the two. When all you can drink
is skim milk, you only drink when you are actually hungry. Good luck.
