Hi Bryan- congrats on your wonderful weight loss- I am almost 2 years post
op also, and we are about the same start and end weight- doesnt get much
better. For your question, it sounds to me like " postural
hypotension"- which in laymen's terms is simply low blood pressure
upon rising from a sitting or a laying position. My suggestion to my
patients used to be, when getting up from a sleeping position, wait a count
of 10-15 seconds, same with sitting. However, your blood work wouldnt
show the lower blood pressure, but a trip to your doctor would answer that
question in just 1 minute.. It isnt something just post WLS'ers get, but
everyone, once in a while. Before adding anything additional to your diet,
like salt etc, check with your PCP, he/she should have the answer you seek,
and once again congrats- job well done.

Bryan I don't know if this will help but when I feel like that it usually
for me means I have not gotten enough liquids in my system. I have been
like that from day one. It may be something as simple as that. Hope this
helps.

Bryan, I've had the same problem since about a year post op. It comes and
goes. It will happen daily for a month or two, then not happen again for
another month....then poof, all over again. I've been to the doctor a
couple of times for it and it's always the same thing. Low blood pressure,
as mentioned earlier. The only advice I've ever been given is make sure I
drink lots of liquids and get up slowly. I know that doesn't help much,
but it's all I've got. I've always had fairly low blood pressure, so this
has been an issue all my life, not just the last 4 years. Good luck

Hi, i have also had the same thing happen to me.. a few months after i had
my surgery i kept getting light headed and dizzy, my legs would get really
weak...at first i thougth maybe i wasnt gettign all the vitimins and things
i need but i take my medicine every day, and all of my blood work is
fine.... becaus eof my age i also had to take more vitimins then adult
patients. At first they had me taking b-50 vitimins then i was told i could
stop taking it... after i stoped taking it was when all of it began so i
figure i should start taking it agian, but i am still having the problem...
im not actually sure what its from but it is kind of a scary
thought.~Michelle

Bryan,
I had the same dizziness. Please, get a home blood pressure monitoring
kit. Keep a log of your BP. If there are large drops in your BP, you need
to see a heart doctor. My BP dropped drastically at work. (34 beats per
minute) They put me in the hospital. The night time monitor showed it
dropped as low as 29 beats per minute. I had to get a pacemaker. Now, I
feel better than I have ever felt. If you want to know more about my
situation, let me know.

Yes, it happens to me everyday and they say it is because we are so use to
pulling up the heavy weight and we are still attempting to do it. Get up
slower and make sure your B/P is ok. Mine was low I found out and they had
to adjust my medication.

In my case I had to have a special blood test for Vitamin D testing and
good enough I had a itamin deficiency even so my calcium was ok. Now I
have to take a vitamin D supplement of 10,000 Unit that I purchase from a
health food store. I get lazy at times and I don't take the pill the
dizziness will come right back. Ask your Dr to do a Vitamin D testing on
you it is a different test from a regular blood test.
I hope I am able to help

I am only 4 months post op, but this past weekend the same thing was
happening to me. I was dehydrated. Are you drinking enough fluids? Try that
and see if it helps.

Bryan,
I agree that low blood pressure and dehydration can cause dizziness.
However, it could also be low blood sugar. I had my blood work done and it
always shows that I average just over 100 on my A1c so my Doctor told me it
couldn't be low blood sugar. Then I used my Dad's monitor when I felt that
way and it showed that my blood sugar was 38. Many WLS patients have this
problem. I have done a lot of research and have found L-Glutamine to be
the best supplement to take to keep it regulated. It is also good for
muscle tone which we all need post op. Go do some research on the internet
on Glutamine. Then have both your blood pressure and blood sugar levels
checked when the spells are happening. Then discuss with your Dr. what is
best plan of action for you.
Best of luck.........from your Okie friend, Sherry

Hi there! Just thought I'd put in my two cents since this does happen to
me so often. I'll be 3 years out the end of June and I started
experiencing this about a year and a half ago. It still happens. My blood
pressure was dropping incredibly low as I stood up (I even tested it at
home and kept a record to let the Dr. know). I saw my doctor, I thought
perhaps my potassium was low. She asked a series of questions (to
ascertain whether or not my potassium might be low) and ran some blood
work. She said that she thought it was due to dehydration. The blood work
came back fine and when I'm sure to get my fluids in I'm usually fine! But
just to be safe you might want to check with your Dr. anyway!

Glad I seen this topic question.. so I know it is not just me who feels
this way my family doctor never has an answer for me cause blood work is
good.. and pressure it always perfect. My surgeon always says dehydration..
so guess I need a little more fluids then I am getting. It is not a good
feeling.. happens to me when getting up as well.. stinks when I am shopping
on a low shelf.. and have to grab on to the shelf cause it feels like I am
going down lol.

Drink, Drink, Drink, Water, Water, WATER. If it continues--Go back to you
Doctor.--Something would be out of balance that they are not checking.
