Question:
Slow weight loss/no weight loss
I had my surgery on Jan 30th. I was doing great. and then it just stopped. For the last 2-2 1/2 I been going up anddown between 5 lbs and cant seem to loose anything. I've been going to curves 4 times per week and drinking and eatting what I'm suppose to be. Has this happened to anyone else and what did yo do to help the weight loss? I've only loss 15-20lbs so far which is great but I would like more!! HELP!!!!! — Mugzy2k (posted on February 28, 2006)

Hello,
The 3 most important things you must always remember about WLS, You MUST
eat, drink and excercise. If you don't, or won't do those three things,
you will not lose weight. You might also have to go back to the basics,
and look at what you are eating.

I think you'll be fine. We all have times where we do not lose for weeks
at a time-it is merely your body adjusting to your new leaner lifestyle.
Keep that protein coming and keep up with your water and excercise. It
WILL come off.

You had surgery a month ago and you lost 20 lbs and your
worrying??????????????????????????????? Stop weighing yourself, I never
could stop, but if you must than you must stop stressing, there will be
weeks on end that the scale dont move and then boom 10 lbs is gone, so dont
trip, and stop worrrying about it, the weight WILL come off!

Never use the word "only" in reference to your weight loss.....a
lesson I learned early on in the process. Your weight loss is not ending,
trust me. The body goes through a "rebalancing" of sorts. While
the scale reads the weight has stayed the same, you have no idea what your
muscle/fat ratio is...remember muscle weighs more than fat, so while you
may weigh the same, your body may in fact be considerably smaller. As a
member of the "slow losers" club, I can tell you from experience
that the scale can't reflect the real story. The only way to truly
determine what is happening is to take your measurements. Believe me, one
day you'll wake up and will be 5 lbs lighter......it happens just like
that.

Don't forget that muscle weighs more than fat, so you may want to count
inches lost as well.

i have been at a stand still for a onth and a half! I am not perfect
though, i am lax on my exercise and i have been eating carbs. I have lost
71 lbs total, but i still weight 220. I guess i am hoping that by some
miracle my butt will move off the couch again!

You did not mentione what kind of surgery you had, but, being
only 30 days out, you should still be on pureed foods if you had RNY. Your
body is adjusting to the small amount you are
eating, Trust me I had stalls in the beginning. Are you eating mostly
protein & getting all of you water in.. Please tell me you are not
drinking soda of anykind, that will hurt any process you want in this
endeavor. Don't panic, it will come off.

Hi Kari!
I read your profile and it was like reading an autobiography (almost!)
I would love to e-mail and encourage you if you're looking for a friend.
By the way, I think you are doing GREAT! You're following the rules and by
doing this, insuring that you WILL succeed! Don't get on those dumb scales
every day.....just keep doing what you're doing, and you will be the
shrinking woman! (just wait till your underwear falls off.....that's a fun
day!) Go Kari! Feel free to e-mail. [email protected]
Hugs,

Don't worry. That happens to us all. Keep doing what your doing and then
your going to step on the scale and it will be minus 10lbs. I am over a
year out and I will still be surprised by an all the sudden 5lb drop. Don't
get discouraged YOU WILL lose the weight!

You are doing great!!!! Occassionally our bodies hit a plateau and sort
of get used to things, then you start losing again. As long as you are
doing what you are supposed to do, you should be fine!!!
I think we all worry when we hit the plateaus!
congratulations!
